About The Position

The Felician Sisters of North America is hiring a full-time Director of Nursing (DON) to lead the health services team and provide excellent quality care in a convent home for elder Catholic Sisters located at our Buffalo convent home located on Doat Street/ Pine Ridge (near Cheektowaga). General Summary: The Director of Nursing will plan and oversee the day-to-day nursing activities of the Health Services Department. This position ensures quality, person-centered resident care and adherence to facility policies, procedures, and standards as well as applicable governmental regulations. Requirements

  • Minimum of (10) years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Minimum of (5) years of supervisory experience in healthcare/nursing, etc.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in good standing required in the state of New York.
  • Comprehensive supervisory experience, including hiring, employee disciplines, performance evaluations, staff scheduling, training, and staff engagement.
  • Required Travel: up to 10%

  • Additional education or experience in such areas as rehabilitative or geriatric nursing is preferred

  • Sets and monitors achievement of goals for the Health Services Department consistent with established philosophy and standards of practice. Participates in the development of Health Service’s standards. Communicates and interprets standards to personnel.
  • Responsible for scheduling health services staff according to the staffing ratios required to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Monitors compliance with an effective medical record documentation system (MIDS) and Provincial clinical review.
  • Prepares and submits reports on Health Services department operations, as required.
  • Schedules, directs, and documents regular meetings with health services staff.
  • Provides in-service education sessions on a regular basis.
  • Oversees restorative, wound prevention and infection control programs.
  • Assesses resident care needs and assists in the individualized plans of resident care and makes recommendations for specialized rehabilitation.
  • Coordinates the daily functions of the Health Services department and interacts with staff, families, and physicians.
  • Maintains positive relationships and collaborates with the Sisters and the Sister Leadership Team in carrying out job responsibilities.
  • Assists with assessments of residents, including hospital visits for intake as appropriate.
  • Prepares and supervises the work assignments of Health Services staff.
  • Makes regular health services unit rounds to review work in progress, evaluates resident care and handles routine nursing matters necessary to facilitate operations.
  • Function as a resource for staff concerning resident care issues.
  • Ensures the accurate documentation of all incidents during shift.
  • Evaluates resident’s needs, condition and care and developing care plans for individual residents, including rehabilitative and restorative activities, and instruction in self-help. Periodically reviews care plans with resident’s physician and nursing team.
  • Makes referrals for spiritual and physiological/ psychological needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures that physician’s orders are checked along with transfer and pre-admission information. Reviews the resident’s medical and social history.
  • Ensures the maintenance of narcotic records and unit records; and that the staff performs accurate charting of resident care.
  • Assists with the investigation of complex resident care problems and assists staff in the analysis and resolution of such problems. Assists with the investigation and resolution of complaints from residents, family members, staff, and physicians through direct action and intervention or referral to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with resident rights policies and work to resolve resident grievances.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of any plans of correction.
  • Works with staff to ensure availability of all equipment, supplies and records necessary for effective operations during assigned shifts.
  • Assists the Administrator with employee relations to include recruitment, orientation, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, terminations, job description updates, training, staff development and enforcement of policies and procedures in collaboration with Provincial Human Resources staff.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the Provincial Human Resources staff regarding various Human Resources issues, questions, and overall personnel management.
  • May perform Nurse duties or Nurse Aide duties, if required.
  • Is available during nights and weekends to address concerns or emergencies as they may arise.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, committees, seminars, conferences, and in-service training programs as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
