About The Position

The Director of Nursing will plan and coordinate nursing services with those of the medical and administrative systems. The Director of Nursing will participate in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with attention to the role, functions, and operations of the facility’s nursing services. The position is responsible for patient care, management, and fiscal management.

Requirements

  • Outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Thorough understanding of nursing management strategies
  • Possesses knowledge of the nurse practice act as well as State and Federal regulations
  • Demonstrates ability to work and communicate effectively and efficiently with residents and families, various departments, and other personnel
  • At least a Bachelors degree in nursing or Healthcare Administration along with experience as an assistant or associate DON with responsibilities for more than one service year is preferred
  • Possesses State of Wisconsin nursing license
  • At least three years of supervisory experience in a nursing environment

  • Member of State of Wisconsin DON Association preferred

Responsibilities

  • Managing, directing, and supervising the nursing department
  • Evaluating employee performance, completes evaluations, handles corrective action, and performance improvement planning
  • Delegating and supervises the development and implementation of the resident assessment (MDS) and care plan, participating as necessary
  • Maintaining adequate staffing to ensure quality care is given to patients and residents
  • Defining and maintains the standards of nursing practice in the facility
  • Assessing the quality of care rendered
  • Initiating the development and implementation of policies and procedures that govern nursing services and other services under the DON’s supervision.
  • Verifying employee credentials under his or her position supervision
  • Collaborating with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development
  • Planning, developing, and implements a budget process for staffing and services rendered
  • Evaluating the quality and cost-effectiveness of staffing within the goals of the facility
  • Serving as a spokesperson for nursing matters and represents the facility with professional nursing and related organizations
  • Participating in meetings and committees
  • Participating in investigations of possible abuse, neglect, grievances, or misappropriation of assets
  • Performing other duties as assigned
