The Director of Nursing (DON) is a key member of our facility’s executive leadership team, responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of nursing services. This leader ensures the delivery of high-quality clinical care, fosters a culture of accountability, and implements best practices that support compliance, resident satisfaction, and staff engagement. The ideal candidate is not just a nurse manager—but a transformational leader who is passionate about excellence in post-acute care and committed to fostering a strong, positive team culture.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state of Michigan (required)
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing leadership experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility
  • Proven success in managing nursing departments, leading teams, and improving quality metrics
  • Strong understanding of federal and state regulatory guidelines (CMS, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Excellent leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Ability to lead through influence, innovation, and integrity

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with federal, state, and facility guidelines.
  • Establish strategic nursing goals and monitor KPIs to support clinical excellence and operational efficiency.
  • Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives and clinical audits.
  • Recruit, retain, and mentor a high-performing team of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
  • Oversee daily clinical operations, including staffing, scheduling, and emergency response planning.
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and career development opportunities for clinical staff.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.
  • Ensure person-centered care that respects resident rights, dignity, and preferences.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapy teams, social services, and families to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Serve as the clinical liaison with regulatory bodies, surveyors, and external partners.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal healthcare regulations, including infection control protocols.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of clinical documentation and MDS processes.
  • Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and reduce clinical risks through data-informed decisions.
