About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing the nursing department in a skilled nursing facility, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and promoting high standards of patient care. This role involves staff development, budget management, and maintaining quality assurance in nursing practices. The DON plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative team environment and enhancing the overall quality of care provided to residents.

Requirements

  • RN Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as Director of Nursing or in a Nurse Management position in long-term healthcare
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to long-term care
  • RN license in good standing in the state of Alabama
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct job responsibilities according to policies and procedures set forth by Regency and applicable laws.
  • Provide and promote staff educational programs and monitor attendance and compliance with mandatory training.
  • Monitor employee performance and respond to compliance issues.
  • Develop and maintain department objectives, standards of nursing practice, and policy manuals.
  • Input information to develop a departmental budget for nursing and attend management meetings.
  • Review medical information for potential residents before admission.
  • Ensure the availability of adequate equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate the admission, discharge, and evaluation process for all residents.
  • Protect and enforce resident rights and responsibilities.
  • Establish systems for care management, including assessments and care planning.
  • Chair the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of residents' healthcare needs.
  • Delegate supervisory authority and promote accountability among nursing staff.
  • Supervise nursing department employees' disciplinary proceedings.
  • Perform environmental and patient care rounds routinely.
  • Communicate with physicians for timely interventions and work closely with the Medical Director.
  • Represent Regency to residents, physicians, and family members.
  • Encourage customer service to employees and enhance team productivity.
  • Resolve staff performance issues and ensure orientation and competency standards are met.
  • Develop individual staff members and assist them in achieving professional goals.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and develop an employee retention program.
  • Champion new ideas for programs and approaches and gain staff buy-in.
