About The Position

The Assisted Living and Village Home Services Director of Nursing shall work hand in hand with the Director of Assisted Living and Home Services by overseeing nursing employee management, nursing department orientation, nursing scheduling, and supervision. The Assisted Living and Village Home Services Director of Nursing will work directly with residents, their families and Ridgecrest staff to ensure that the care and needs of residents are being met.

Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse within the State of Iowa.
  • Must have been a Registered Nurse for a minimum of four years.
  • At least one year’s supervisory experience, in a senior living environment preferred.
  • Must possess and display leadership and management ability and a dedication to high quality standards.
  • Must exhibit a strong clinical skillset along with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Must possess patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition.
  • Must possess the mental and physical capabilities to fulfill the duties of this position.
  • Desire to enrich resident lives.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
  • Must be able to continuously articulate clearly and precisely and communicate with persons of varying backgrounds.
  • Must possess the knowledge, skill, and empathy necessary to work with geriatric residents and their families.

  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Attends work and shows up for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Must possess sufficient physical stamina to allow for lifting, pushing, and pulling of residents or other objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to sit and walk on a frequent basis. Requires the ability to stand, climb stairs, twist, stoop/bend at the waist. Requires the ability to kneel on a rare basis.
  • Reaching at, or below shoulders on an occasional basis and manipulation of objects with one or both hands is required.
  • Must follow isolation precautions as deemed necessary and enforce standard infection control measures as needed.
  • All employees are expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other employees, and the facility. This includes the ability to assist with a possible evacuation of residents.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and manages a nursing staff capable of meeting all Village standards for quality efficient resident care.
  • Delegates work tasks to appropriate level of staff.
  • Assists in ensuring the delivery of optimal resident care.
  • Attends resident care plans and conferences.
  • Attends “Level of Care” meetings.
  • Oversees the admissions and discharge processes to ensure smooth transition for all residents.
  • Makes walking rounds between shifts and whatever necessary to supervise and monitor work performance in terms of resident care, staff regulations and efficiency of service.
  • Contacts families of residents regarding issues that may arise such as medical or behavioral problems.
  • Keeps current with job related professional developments, regulations and/or operational procedures (IDPH, Medicare, CMS, etc.) impacting nursing operations.
  • Maintains professional status with physicians.
  • Responds to all emergency situations within the facility.
  • Serves as a role model for nursing employees.
  • Cooperates with all inspections of nursing care by an outside agency.
  • Demonstrates consistent ability to identify problems within the nursing department and report to the AL Director.
  • Responsible for the hiring, firing, evaluating and disciplining of nursing staff with the assistance of Human Resources.
  • Informs the AL Director of events and situations which impact resident care services.
  • Assists in meeting mandated requirements established by federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Utilizes ethical and legal standards in the management of resident care situations.
  • Oversees utilization of nursing supplies to maintain efficient use of budget.
  • Prepares various reports at the AL Director and/or President/CEO Executive Director’s request.
  • Participates in developing policies and procedures for the Assisted Living and Village Home Services department.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as explained in formal employee orientation and as pertains to each work area. Conducts on-going monitoring of personnel to determine if proper procedures are carried out.
  • Serves on various committees of the organization.
  • Plans and participates in developing policies, orientation, and in-service training.
  • Promotes positive working relationships to enhance the overall effectiveness of the Assisted Living and Village Home Services department.
  • Demonstrates competency in skills mandated by required education and training.
  • Serves in an on-call capacity for clinical issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
