About The Position

The Director of Music Ministries at Garner United Methodist Church is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the church's music program, working closely with the Senior Pastor to enhance worship services. This part-time role involves managing Sunday morning worship services, seasonal concerts, and collaborating with both professional music staff and volunteer leaders. The Director must inspire and lead individuals of all ages in various musical settings, fostering a cooperative spirit among music personnel to fulfill the church's worship ministry goals.

Requirements

  • Must be a professing Christian with a calling to assist the pastor(s) and congregation in worship through music.
  • A relevant bachelor's degree, completed or in process, and/or equivalent experience is required.
  • Ability to read music is essential.
  • Proficiency as an accompanist or experience as an organist is desirable.
  • Experience in choral conducting, vocal performance, and church music ministry preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email.

  • Experience in leading music workshops related to church music ministries.

Responsibilities

  • Select, rehearse, and present high energy, spiritually moving, inspiring, appropriate music in consultation with the Senior Pastor for weekly worship services.
  • Include special music such as solos, instrumentalists, and ensembles in cooperation with other music personnel as needed to enhance worship.
  • Recruit and encourage vocal and instrumental musicians within the congregation and promote the music program.
  • Select, rehearse, and present special music for seasonal emphasis at Christmas and/or Lent/Easter.
  • Supervise maintenance of and additions to the music library and equipment, including purchased music and musical instruments.
  • Prepare and administer the annual music ministry budget reflecting the needs of the entire music program.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings as often as possible.
  • Provide effective leadership to the accompanist and organist, reporting any concerns to the Staff Parish Committee.
  • Promote harmony in the workplace by maintaining good working relationships and supporting staff decisions.
  • Stay current on traditional and contemporary music.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Pastors.
