About The Position

The Director of Mission & Pastoral Care at St. Mary's Health Care Center is a full-time role focused on providing spiritual support to residents, families, and staff while fulfilling the mission of compassionate care. This position is integral to the administrative team, ensuring that the healing ministry of the Catholic Church is present in the Worcester community. The Director will coordinate religious services, provide pastoral care, and lead mission integration efforts within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in theology or spirituality; Master's preferred
  • Strong commitment to the elderly and understanding of their spiritual issues
  • Experience in a pastoral care and mission effectiveness capacity in a health care setting
  • Recent education in Pastoral Care or Ministry-related areas, or comparable experiences
  • 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of personnel and constituents
  • Commitment to the mission of Catholic health care and knowledge of the social and ethical teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Evidence of continual updating in theology and Catholic Church Theory

Responsibilities

  • Visit residents upon admission and assess their spiritual needs
  • Assure regular visits to each resident
  • Coordinate visits for appropriate religious personnel including priests, ministers, rabbis, and lay ministers/visitors
  • Provide comfort and spiritual support to residents, families, and staff during times of crisis
  • Prepare and coordinate religious services, including Mass, Sacraments, and other worship services
  • Provide hospitality for visiting clergy
  • Attend wakes and funerals of residents and participate in services as requested
  • Coordinate music and harp therapy programs for residents with Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias
  • Develop and coordinate end-of-life care programs and educational programs on Ethical Religious Directives
  • Attend interdisciplinary care meetings and set goals for meeting the spiritual needs of residents
  • Maintain department documentation consistent with CHS Spiritual Care Standards
  • Develop and participate in orientation of new staff regarding spiritual care services and mission values
  • Provide ongoing education on the mission and values statement for St. Mary Health Care
  • Develop and implement a mission integration plan based on periodic assessments
  • Coordinate Mission Effectiveness Committee and 'Make a Difference' program
  • Serve as a liaison with local parishes, churches, and other agencies
  • Direct department activities and supervise volunteers for spiritual care activities
