About The Position

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is the Catholic Church in Northeast Kansas: Growing as Disciples of Jesus; Making Disciples for Jesus. The Office of Ministerial Standards is seeking to hire a Director of Ministerial Standards. This position safeguards the integrity of the Church’s ministry by ensuring that all allegations of misconduct are received, assessed, and investigated with professionalism, objectivity, in compliance with civil and ecclesiastical law.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, its structure and ministries within the Offices of the Chancery, parishes, schools and associated entities of the Archdiocese.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Diplomatic, tactful and discreet especially when dealing with confidential matters.
  • Knowledge of Kansas statutes related to sexual abuse and exploitation.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively.
  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or counseling required; Juris Doctorate or demonstrated work experience equivalent preferred.
  • Law enforcement, investigatory, or similar disciplinary background required with strong sense of justice.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience with ecclesiastic institutions is preferred.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Archdiocesan processes for handling allegations of misconduct, fraud, or abuse, includes, but is not limited to, coordinating investigations and responses to allegations of: sexual abuse or exploitation of minors or vulnerable adults; boundary violations and misconduct in ministry; financial impropriety, fraud, or corruption; workplace misconduct, harassment, or serious HR matters; canonical concerns requiring investigation or documentation.
  • Coordinate the investigations and collection of information regarding an investigation.
  • Conduct or supervise preliminary assessments to determine: immediate safety needs, mandatory civil reporting obligations; appropriate investigative pathway (civil, administrative, canonical).
  • Maintain a centralized, secure case management system.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Office of Ministerial Standards, including hiring, training, and supervising staff; establishing investigative protocols and workflows; and developing standardized forms, templates, policies, and procedures.
  • Engage and coordinate as needed with the Archbishop, Vicars General, General Counsel, Office of Internal Audit, Promoter of Justice, Office of Prevention and Care, Human Resources, and Office of Catholic Schools.
  • Develop and manage budgets for the Department of Ministerial Standards, and any related activities.
