Requirements

  • Current, active, and unrestricted California Physician's and Surgeon's License is required.
  • Board Certification in a primary care specialty such as Family Practice or Internal Medicine is required to meet CRIHB's professional standards for this position.
  • Knowledge of accreditation processes, including JCAHO and AAAHC standards, and related quality systems is required.
  • Applicants must be able to document their experience, background, and training and demonstrate professional ability, character, and physical and mental fitness sufficient to perform the duties of the position, which may include clinical consultation or patient care as appropriate.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and consultation skills across multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams.
  • Ability to synthesize complex medical and regulatory information into actionable recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, clinical software systems, and electronic health record (EHR) applications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, equity, and American Indian self-determination.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an ambulatory or community health setting is preferred.
  • Prior experience in an Indian Health program and/or demonstrated knowledge and sensitivity to healthcare delivery issues affecting minority populations, including familiarity with performance monitoring and quality improvement systems, is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance for clinically-related services and issues arising from participating in Tribal Health Programs, as appropriate.
  • Establishes and supports a network of medical practitioners to foster best practices of medicine using a multi-disciplinary team approach to the provision of health care at the local level.
  • Provides peer review, including provisional assessment of specific treatment modalities, incident review, addressing medical and legal issues, and development of comprehensive incident reports.
  • Assists with recruitment of medical staff, credentialing, and privileging of health professionals.
  • Serves as a liaison between Tribal Health Programs and local, state, and federal public health or healthcare service entities.
  • Provides clinicians of member Tribal Health Programs with timely and appropriate clinical practice updates and guidelines from state, federal, academic, or other authoritative sources.
  • Fosters and assists THP in preparation for accreditation or re-accreditation of Tribal Health Programs through agencies such as AAAHC and JCAHO.
  • Fosters integration of Traditional Indian Medicine and health practices in the Revised 10/27/25 clinical setting.
  • Assists in the writing and development of contract and grant proposals in furtherance of CRIHB's purpose.
  • Performs other duties requiring medical input and oversight as assigned.
  • Designs and implements educational conferences for CRIHB member program provider staff on an annual basis.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB's automobile insurance.
  • The position may require occasional overnight travel within CRIHB's service area.
  • Requires the ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.
