Senior Mechanical Project Manager We are seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering with the ability to be a Medical Sector Market Leader for our Southern California office based in San Bernardino. This person will potentially perform work in multiple market sectors such as municipal, educational, federal, and other private market project types in addition to medical work. As a Market Leader, duties will include a mixture of project management, business development, and mentorship of other designers and project managers. As a Senior Project Manager, this person will help supervise and mentor anywhere from 1 to 5 Project Management teams. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with new clientele, developing business relationships, and investing their time in mentoring the team. We stress customer service and are looking for someone who prides themselves on their ability to interact and communicate with everybody involved.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience in HVAC and Plumbing Design and Project Management with the ability to put together complete sets of biddable construction documents.
  • 5 years of experience as a Project Manager including all aspects such as attending meetings, managing designers and draftspersons, completing projects within timeline and budgets
  • Proficient with advanced energy modeling tools such as Energy Pro. Trace 700. and other similar programs to conduct energy and sustainability analyses, ensuring compliance with NetZero and LEED standards
  • Strong experience with complex mechanical systems
  • Experience in various project types and market sectors with strong experience in medical and hospital projects
  • Must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to maintain client relationships as an ambassador for Design West Engineering
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP
  • Experience with proposal writing and client development.
  • Must be able to multi-task between different projects and have adaptability to changing technologies, codes, and tools.
  • Must demonstrate a passion for mentorship
  • 5 years experience required in the job offered, or related occupation.
  • 5 years must include experience with: (1) Mechanical HVAC Design; (2) Using Mechanical code, Plumbing Codes, and Building codes; (3) Construction administration.; (4) Building Department plan check approval; (5) Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Revit; (6) Preparing budgets and fee proposals for large, complex engineering projects; (7) Writing and negotiating additional services (ASR) for ongoing large multi-phase projects; (8) Sustainable design for LEED projects using IESVE Modeling; (9) Preparing budgets and fee proposals for large, complex engineering projects where design fees exceed $1 million; and (10) Writing and negotiating additional services (ASR) for ongoing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes primary responsibility for overseeing the design of mechanical systems, including HVAC, and plumbing, for large scale projects in education, civic, infrastructure, and sustainable sectors.
  • Leads the development of firm-wide mechanical design standards, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and code updates (Mechanical, Plumbing Codes)
  • Prepares budgets and fee proposals for complex projects, ensuring financial accuracy and alignment with client expectations
  • Provides mentorship and technical training to a team of 4-6 engineers and designers, fostering expertise in MEP systems and project delivery
  • Oversees Project Managers to ensure timely completion of mechanical projects within budgetary and quality constraints, performing rigorous QA/QC reviews to maintain code compliance and design integrity.
  • Drives business development by leading client proposals and securing new project opportunities, collaborating with stakeholders to expand the firm's portfolio
  • Conducts research to integrate innovative mechanical solutions, enhancing project efficiency and sustainability
  • Will supervise employees, specifically provide training and development of the skills for the employees assigned to the team - does not have the ability to hire or fire
  • The position involves evaluating and providing recommendations for the people on the team
