About The Position

The Director of Logistics at Graham Packaging is responsible for leading and overseeing the company’s end-to-end logistics network—including local fleet operations, national carrier management, and outsourced network design functions. This role plays a strategic and tactical leadership role, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods across Graham’s North American footprint. The Director partners cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Customer Service to deliver operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in logistics, fleet management, or supply chain leadership, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing both private fleet operations and third-party carriers.
  • Proven ability to lead geographically dispersed teams and manage external vendors.
  • Strong understanding of DOT/CDL regulatory requirements and logistics safety best practices.
  • Demonstrated success in logistics network optimization, cost control, and performance management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in packaging, CPG, or manufacturing industries.
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and fleet telematics solutions.
  • Exposure to Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a long-term logistics strategy to support manufacturing operations, customer delivery expectations, and cost targets.
  • Serve as a key leader in shaping logistics strategy in alignment with broader business goals.
  • Oversee Fleet Managers and local driver teams, ensuring compliance with DOT/CDL regulations, on-time delivery, and driver safety performance.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize route planning, driver utilization, fuel efficiency, and preventive maintenance.
  • Manage and develop a team of Carrier Managers responsible for third-party freight partnerships across Graham’s distribution network.
  • Set performance standards and KPIs for carriers, ensuring service reliability and cost competitiveness.
  • Negotiate freight contracts and lead cost-saving initiatives.
  • Oversee outsourced and internal network design resources to optimize plant-to-customer and interplant shipping strategies.
  • Support strategic modeling efforts to adapt to changing customer needs and production shifts.
  • Evaluate warehouse and distribution requirements across the network.
  • Ensure logistics operations comply with federal, state, and company safety regulations.
  • Champion a safety-first culture across all transportation activities.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Driver safety training programs.
  • Lead and coach a cross-functional team including Fleet Managers, Carrier Managers, and outsourced logistics analysts.
  • Promote talent development and succession planning within the logistics function.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture.
  • Manage logistics budgets, analyze spend, and drive cost reduction through efficiency and network improvements.
  • Develop and track key metrics, dashboards, and reports to evaluate logistics performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
