About The Position

The Library Director serves as the library's leader and chief administrator within the goals, guidelines, and policies established by the University administration. This responsibility includes the organization and dissemination of information and services through the effective utilization of library resources. In addition, this position will serve as a change agent, guiding library staff through changes that will expand library processes and services within the vision of the University's strategic plan. This is a full-time position with full-time benefits.

Requirements

  • Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Studies degree from an ALA-Accredited program is required.
  • Five years of professional library experience, with demonstrated leadership experience, is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience supervising and evaluating library personnel, in particular professional library staff is preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge of office software.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience in, technical library services which includes cataloging.
  • Demonstrated experience with collection development projects, including short and long term planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with outreach and planning across institutional communities.
  • Demonstrated experience with teaching and training library patrons.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership for the library, and develop a collaborative leadership team.
  • Uphold and further a culture of service and collaboration in the library and across campus.
  • Serve on faculty and other committees; act as the library's liaison to administrators and department heads.
  • Maintain membership and engage in professional organizations.
  • Stay current with emerging research and publications concerning academic libraries.
  • Attend professional development conferences.
  • Keep track of technological updates, tracks vendor webinars, and updates.
  • Encourage and oversee professional development of library staff.
  • Lead, organize, and set priorities for the library team as a whole.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, requirements, and policies.
  • Equip the library team to provide resources and technical management for the library collection.
  • Develop vision, goals, objectives, and actions for the library in alignment with the vision and strategic plan of the University.
  • Advocate and champion the library's needs and services with University administration and Board of Regents.
  • Prepare and oversee the library's budget, and present budget requests to the governing board.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate library staff and volunteers.
  • Track, tabulate, and manage library usage statistics/data.
  • Promote library resources and services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Manage inventory and maintenance of library furniture, materials, and resources.
