The Director of Legal Services will serve as the regulatory and consumer finance attorney for the organization. This role requires substantial experience in consumer lending, NMLS licensing, and regulatory engagement, as well as the ability to engage in cross-functional collaboration to implement compliant processes across the business.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (consumer finance, regulatory compliance, or financial services strongly preferred).
  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction or the District of Columbia -- or must be able otherwise to qualify as Authorized House Counsel per the rules governing the Bar of Florida.
  • Ability to obtain NMLS Individual Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license promptly after hire.
  • Experience providing advice on consumer financing, mortgage lending, and multi-state licensing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating directly with state or federal regulatory authorities.
  • Exposure to managing or participating in regulatory examinations or audits preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with team members at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of critical thinking and decision-making ability. Ability to conduct and analyze research on a variety of compliance-related topics and issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to grasp technical concepts and translate legal jargon into clear business requirements while concisely articulating ideas, opinions, and information in spoken and written form.
  • Proven advanced computer skills (including Adobe Pro, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, DocuSign, and Outlook) with the ability to learn new programs.
  • High integrity and ethics in all dealings – internal, external and personal; exercise sound judgment and strive to be a model of professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) licenses and filings.
  • Serve as the lead for multi-state consumer lending licensing and NMLS compliance efforts.
  • Manage and coordinate consumer lending state regulatory inquiries and audits.
  • Serve as primary legal point of contact for state regulators and applicable federal agencies.
  • Conduct research and remain current on relevant consumer lending laws, including state lending statutes, FDCPA, CFPB regulations, UDAAP and related compliance frameworks to ensure ability to provide sound regulatory advice.
  • Draft, revise, and review all consumer timeshare purchase contracts and related legal documentation associated with timeshare sales.
  • Partner with IT and Contracts Administration teams to ensure contract templates, disclosures, and system-generated documents are accurate and up to date.
  • Support compliance initiatives involving key areas such as AML, FDCPA, RESPA and TRID.
  • Advise on compliance implications of new business initiatives and product changes.
  • Serve as key representative on timeshare industry calls to identify and monitor relevant legislative updates that impact the organization across all legal areas.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel as directed.
