About The Position

At Upstate Veterinary Specialties (UVS), we believe that education drives excellence and we’re looking for a visionary leader to take our training programs to the next level. The Director of Learning & Development is responsible for designing, leading, and continuously improving the organization’s training and development strategy. This role ensures that employees are effectively onboarded, trained, assessed, and supported to perform their roles competently and confidently. This position leads the training function and oversees hands-on skill training, competency assessments, onboarding programs, gap training, and ongoing development initiatives. The Director of Training & Development partners closely with clinical leadership, operations, and HR to align training programs with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and operational needs

Requirements

  • Leadership Experience: 3+ years in a leadership role, including managing training programs or people.
  • Training Expertise: Experience designing and implementing training programs, ideally in clinical or healthcare settings.
  • Strong Skills: Excellent communication, project management, and organizational abilities.
  • Tech-Savvy Educator: Familiar with learning management systems (LMS), instructional design, and adult learning principles.
  • Passion for Growth: A strategic thinker who thrives on developing people and improving systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build & Innovate: Develop a comprehensive training framework to support onboarding, skill progression, and clinical excellence across all departments.
  • Lead & Inspire: Manage a team of clinical trainers, fostering a culture of growth, consistency, and collaboration.
  • Elevate Standards: Create standardized curricula, assessment tools, and competency checklists to ensure fairness, clarity, and alignment with hospital-wide goals.
  • Drive Excellence: Partner with hospital leadership to ensure training aligns with medical protocols, patient safety, and operational priorities.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with HR, department managers, and recruiting to support employee development and strengthen retention initiatives
