About The Position

The Director of Leadership Development is responsible for designing and leading a comprehensive leadership development strategy that builds, supports, and sustains top-tier educators and school leaders to drive student success. This role plays a critical part in strengthening the organization’s talent ecosystem by ensuring a strong, diverse, and high-performing pipeline of teachers, school leaders, and support staff. The Director leads the development and implementation of leadership initiatives that promote professional growth, instructional excellence, and long-term retention. This includes creating clear leadership pathways, overseeing induction and residency programs, and providing targeted coaching and professional learning experiences for emerging and existing leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Education, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Texas teaching certification and leadership certification preferred – or ability to obtain certification within two years.
  • 3+ years of experience in leadership development, or a related role in K-12 education, prior school Principal experience preferred.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to execute multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proven success supporting, coaching, or managing school leaders (e.g., principals, assistant principals, instructional leaders).
  • Strong knowledge of teacher and leader development, retention strategies, and adult learning principles.
  • Experience leading induction, mentorship, or residency programs (e.g., PIR, LIR, or similar models).
  • Ability to analyze engagement, retention, and performance data to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement leadership development programs to cultivate emerging and existing leaders within the organization.
  • Support school leaders with coaching, professional development, and succession planning to build internal leadership capacity.
  • Facilitate new teacher and leadership induction programs to improve retention and accelerate professional growth.
  • Work closely with Chiefs and school leadership to establish effective retention strategies, including mentorship, growth pathways, and recognition initiatives.
  • Monitor staff engagement and satisfaction through surveys and feedback mechanisms, using insights to improve talent initiatives.
  • Manage and oversee the Leadership In Residence (LIR) program for aspiring leaders.
  • Manage and oversee the Principal In Residence (PIR) program for new leaders.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with the Chiefs to ensure alignment on talent development.
  • Build and maintain a sustainable internal leadership pipeline for teachers, instructional leaders, assistant principals, and principals.
  • Prepare identified staff for future leadership opportunities.
  • Support internal promotion processes and readiness assessments for leadership candidates.
  • Plan and facilitate leadership-focused professional development sessions, workshops, and learning communities.
  • Ensure leadership development programming aligns with instructional priorities, organizational values, and performance expectations.
  • Develop tools, frameworks, and resources to support consistent leadership practices across campuses.
  • Manage program timelines, deliverables, and outcomes for all leadership development initiatives.
  • Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of leadership development, induction, and retention programs.
  • Track program outcomes and report progress, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to drive continuous improvement of leadership initiatives.
  • Support change management efforts related to leadership transitions, growth, and organizational initiatives.
  • Represent leadership development in cross-functional planning and strategic conversations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
