About The Position

The Director of Knowledge Management and Research Services at Shipman & Goodwin LLP is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive knowledge management strategy that enhances the firm's ability to capture, distribute, and effectively utilize knowledge and information. This role involves collaboration with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to leverage knowledge assets for improved efficiency and client service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Library Science, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree or J.D. preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in knowledge management or library science, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful knowledge management strategies.
  • Excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with attorney work product and workflows in a legal practice.
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive knowledge management strategy.
  • Provide reference and research services to internal attorneys and staff.
  • Conduct in-depth reference interviews with attorneys to clarify requests.
  • Execute the Knowledge Management Lifecycle for knowledge and information management.
  • Identify and leverage knowledge management technologies to enhance sharing and accessibility.
  • Coordinate training for attorneys and staff on knowledge management systems.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of the firm's knowledge repositories.
  • Stay informed about industry trends in knowledge management.
  • Draft and collect external thought leadership materials and presentations.
  • Manage knowledge management suppliers and assess internal satisfaction.
  • Work with marketing to develop competitive market intelligence.
