The Christman Company is seeking a Director of IT Systems & Support for our headquarters office in Lansing, MI. This is a pivotal moment for IT at Christman. As we grow nationally and the construction industry undergoes rapid technological evolution, the Director of IT Systems & Support will play a critical role in our digital transformation. While ensuring operational excellence in our current environment, you'll help architect our technology future—contributing to our cloud migration strategy, exploring AI applications that can give us competitive advantage, and helping position Christman at the forefront of construction technology innovation. This role provides strategic leadership for Christman's IT Systems & Operations and IT Support & Services teams, balancing the dual mandate of maintaining robust, secure current operations while helping build the technology foundation for our next era of growth. You'll have the opportunity to move beyond traditional IT management to become a key contributor to our technology vision—bringing ideas about emerging innovations, partnering in building the business case for transformational investments, and collaborating on initiatives that fundamentally change how we deliver projects and serve clients. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science , Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years leading and developing IT teams.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure (architecture, administration, and security), and modern cybersecurity practices.
  • Proven experience building and managing high-performing technical teams.
  • Ability to develop and execute IT strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, procurement, and cost control.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and implement new technologies in a growing organization.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Relevant IT certifications (e.g., Azure, cybersecurity, project management).
  • 15+ years of IT experience, including 5+ years in IT leadership.
  • Experience in the construction, engineering, or architecture industries.
  • Formal project management training or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Christman's cloud-first strategy, helping guide migration efforts and cloud infrastructure decisions.
  • Explore and help implement AI and machine learning applications in construction project management, estimating, and operations.
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate and implement emerging construction technologies (digital twins, IoT, advanced analytics, etc.).
  • Collaborate on technology investment decisions and contribute to our digital roadmap.
  • Work alongside business leaders to identify how technology can solve real challenges and create new opportunities.
  • Partner with the VP of IT and executive leadership to develop and execute long-term technology strategy.
  • Lead the IT Support & Helpdesk function of the enterprise and how it operates.
  • Bring ideas about emerging technologies that could provide competitive advantage in construction.
  • Collaborate on business cases for transformational technology investments.
  • Establish, forecast, and track departmental budgets aligned with strategic initiatives.
  • Be responsible for career development and day-to-day performance of an IT team up to 10 full-time employees.
