About The Position

The Director of Maternal and Child Health Services is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Mother Baby Unit, Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics, and Special Care Nursery. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and the efficient operation of these departments. The Director will collaborate with medical staff, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs that enhance patient care and outcomes. Oversees development of unit budgets and assures fiscal accountability at the departmental level. Responsible for development of an on-going five-year Capital Budgeting Plan for assigned departments. Maintains effective communication with all nursing and other hospital personnel, physicians, executives, and stakeholders. Can effectively work within dyad leadership structure. Strives for the advancement of nursing within the community and on the local and state level. Maintains awareness of legislation and accreditation changes to nursing practice and unit functioning and can make changes accordingly. Serves as a resource person for all members of the department and others as requested.

Requirements

  • Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88) or licensure through Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (SSB 5499).
  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) (or must be currently enrolled). Current leader with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing may be grandfathered into Hospital Director position with an expectation of receiving a MSN, MHA or other healthcare related Masters level degree within 5 years.
  • National certification in nursing leadership (either ANCC or AONL) to be obtained within 2 years of hire.
  • Seven years progressive nursing leadership experience, i.e., Charge Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Manager, with a minimum of 3 years as a Manager, and at least two (2) years in Perioperative Services.
  • American Heart Association CPR.
  • Computer skills related to Microsoft products - Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Nursing Leadership Team and in collaboration with unit/department managers, participates in hospital planning, decision making and policy formulation demonstrating systems thinking and change management skills.
  • Provides an experience and environment of patient and family-centered care.
  • Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Can comfortably lead within dyad leadership structure.
  • Leads and attends hospital committees essential for role.
  • Participates in community educational programs and meetings as the hospital's representative.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead/direct Patient Services team.
  • Stay Current with industry trends, research, and best practices in maternal and child health.
  • Maintains awareness of verbal/non-verbal communication with staff, other departments, physicians, patients, and families.

  • Responsible for oversight, development, allocation, and administration of Budget for assigned departments.
  • Develops, implements, and assures the organizations plan for providing Nursing care and other assigned patient services in accordance with the Mission/vision of the hospital.
  • Ability to develop business plans for new projects/services within areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for workforce planning including current and future needs and recruitment and retention strategy.
  • Assists Clinical Managers with evaluating problems related to safe, effective quality patient care, staffing and fiscal responsibility.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with academic institutions to ensure Confluence Health is meeting its obligation regarding clinical placement.
  • Implement standard operating system for leadership in area to improve communication, delegation, and accountability.
  • Develop own career plan and measure progress according to that plan.
  • Coach others in developing their own behaviors and plan.
  • Ensure that shared governance is embedded in assigned departments and nurses area actively involved in decisions that affect their practice.
  • Participate in at least one professional organization and support and encourage others to participate in professional organization.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the performance improvement process: Work with others to design, facilitate and maintain an effective process improvement program.
  • Maintain awareness of WA Department of Health, CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid) and DNV standards and requirements needed to maintain compliance with standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
