Instrumental Music at Midland provides a creative and welcoming outlet where students from across campus can perform, design, and contribute to high-quality productions. Position Overview The Director of Instrumental Music provides leadership, strategy, and instruction for the instrumental music program which includes the recruitment of incoming students, creation of meaningful instrumental experiences, retention of current students by providing a variety of curricular and co-curricular instrumental offerings, and fostering an environment in which they can grow. The Director may also teach courses in music or related areas, depending on expertise and departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in relevant field required
  • Experience teaching and directing a successful instrumental music program
  • Experience performing duties related to recruitment or a similar function
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive atmosphere for staff and students
  • Exhibit drive and tenacity around achieving goals, continuous improvement, and problem-solving
  • Possess a passion for working with/mentoring young adults and cultivating talent
  • Strong background in student recruitment and engagement.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • A passion for working with students in a collaborative, creative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment: Actively recruit prospective students to participate in Midland's instrumental music program, with particular emphasis on building relationships with high schools, community programs, and prospective students interested in combining music with a variety of academic paths.
  • Program Leadership: Conduct the band throughout the year, ensuring meaningful and professional-quality experiences for students and audiences.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire, mentor, and support students of all majors as they explore and develop their artistic and academic potential.
  • Collaboration: Partner with colleagues in performing arts and other academic areas to create interdisciplinary opportunities in the arts.
  • Instruction: Teach courses in music or related areas as appropriate.
  • Administration: Manage program operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and facilities.
