About The Position

The Director of Inpatient Care administers, directs and coordinates activities within the Medical/Surgical, ICU and Swing Bed departments. The director is responsible for recommendation, development and implementation of policies and procedures, as well as maintaining documented survey readiness in all the direct report areas. The Director of Inpatient care will keep the Executive Staff informed of both progress and potential problems and is responsible for the direction and evaluation of patient care delivery in the department. Maintains operational aspects of Med/Surg-ICU and the Swing bed program, in collaboration with other service areas throughout the facility. Responsible for meeting or exceeding quality and patient satisfaction measures and ensuring that the nursing and interdisciplinary services are coordinated to provide excellent care. Collaborates with the inpatient care medical director to coordinate the Service line. Participates in other workgroups as assigned to address patient quality and health improvement activities. Maintains skills and certifications to be prepared to step into patient care when necessary. The Director of Inpatient Care adheres to Amberwell Health cultural competencies and principles of servant leadership in all aspects of job performance.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas.
  • BSN required.
  • At least two years of previous experience working as a nurse in a similar nursing care environment.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the department managed complies with all certifications, accreditation, and licensing standards.
  • Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures and interprets them to personnel, patients, medical staff and the public
  • Develops annual budget, anticipating needs, trends and staffing requirements.
  • Maintains accurate records, reports and pertinent statistical data regarding services provided and performs a continual needs analysis and evaluation of the Nursing Department.
  • Supervises Nursing personnel, insuring they provide patient care and treatment according to Hospital Policies and Procedures.
  • Works with the nursing staff to provide guidance in proper documentation in the electronic health record and any other patient documentation
  • Makes recommendations to the Executive Staff regarding the purchase of new equipment necessary to maintain a high level of patient care.
  • Ensures that equipment is maintained in optimum working condition
  • Responsible for hiring, orienting, evaluating, and disciplining all departmental personnel in accordance with Amberwell policies and procedures.
  • Completes department staffing schedule and ensures that the department is staffed at a level safe for quality patient care.
  • Functions as a staff nurse when needed and is a clinical expert in the department on all equipment, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicates in an effective and courteous manner with all facility personnel, visitors and patients and always maintains a neat and professional appearance.
