The Global Innovation Director will be responsible for the developing new material science platforms at the Global Innovation Center (GIC) that are commercialized in partnership with the business units. The GIC serves as the innovation center of excellence and is home of several polymer pilot plant and laboratory capabilities. This player-coach is responsible for transformational R D, new product and process development for the company. He/she will collaborate with numerous business partners to extend Tekni-Plex's current business model and capabilities to new customers, markets, and targets, as well as creating new capabilities for the company that will accelerate future growth. Example products include sustainable food packaging, integrated dispensing solutions, and sealing components. This position will report to the SVP Global Innovation.

  • Serve as a player-coach responsibility for a team of 2 direct reports (R D engineers) located at the Global Innovation Center (GIC).
  • Leverage technical credibility and influence to drive technical solutions throughout the company.
  • Serve as principal investigator/program manager to develop and commercialize strategic global R D programs.
  • Provide technical expertise to the business.
  • Partner with the SVP Global Innovation and the regional innovation leaders to define R D needs.
  • Identify strategic research partners, define a framework for success, and deliver breakthrough solutions.
  • Partner with diverse stakeholders to include Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing Operations, and finance.
  • Develop relationships with strategic global partners, suppliers, customers, industry associations, etc.
  • Lead/participate in internal/external customer innovation/ideation sessions and formal presentations.
  • Coordinate IP activities, including conducting freedom to operate searches and managing new invention filings.
  • Drive a local spirit of inclusiveness, sharing, and collaboration.
  • Minimum of 10 years of materials industry experience in R D.
  • Demonstrated influence management capacity.
  • Strong industry network across various material science platforms.
  • Experience building a culture of innovation and collaboration within teams.
  • Experience and demonstrated success in developing new innovation concepts from ideation to commercialization.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in building an innovation pipeline and prioritizing / resourcing.
  • Experience operating across an integrated business also highly preferred.
  • PhD. (preferred) in Material science-related field (i.e. Material science, Chemistry, Polymer, or Chemical Engineering).
