About The Position

The Director Inbound Transportation is responsible for the domestic inbound transportation strategy, procurement, and execution. This role partners cross functionally to develop an effective transportation strategy that supports the company’s objectives while achieving the stated financial goals. This role partners with distribution centers (DC) and carriers in planning, implementing, and executing daily deliveries to meet carrier on-time delivery performance standards. This role owns relationships with all Logistics Service Providers (3PLs, carriers in all modes,) freight payment activities/providers, vendor compliance programs, and adherence to all True Valuer /regulatory policies. The target candidate is a proven people leader with a continuous improvement mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience, preferably in Supply Chain or Transportation.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment with a "can do" attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the subject matter expert on inbound transportation within the company.
  • Coaches, develops, manages, and supervises a team located at the corporate office.
  • Lead leaders.
  • Attract and develop top talent both internally and externally.
  • Leads the team that plans, directs, and monitors transportation activities so that True Value’s product are transported safely and cost-effectively and that they arrive at their destination on time and in good condition.
  • Manages ~$40M inbound transportation cost to the annual plan; adjust strategies as needed to accommodate volume surges and changes in the global supply chain.
  • Manage mode determination and monitor patterns; course correct as needed.
  • Lead transportation negotiations with carriers (parcel, LTL, TL, IM) to drive optimal rate structures.
  • Ensure capacity by mode when needed; manage seasonal surges.
  • Owns corporate relationships with third party providers (3PLs, carriers, freight payment providers).
  • Analyzes financial information to explain performance, develop plans, forecasts, and budgets for increasing profits or improving inbound service.
  • Provides thought leadership on overall transportation strategies to move product from True Value suppliers (prepaid vs collect, cross docking, mode shifts, etc..).
  • Recommend and implement solutions to drive down total supply chain costs while achieving required service targets.
  • Monitor and manage results to ensure compliance.
