About The Position

The Utah State University Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Human Resources to lead our HR division. This position reports to SDL's President. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in human resources management, legal and regulatory compliance, staffing, employee relations, workforce planning, and organizational development. SDL's Director of Human Resources oversees all HR functions, including benefits, compensation, staffing, compliance, employee relations, and training and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or a related field
  • 10 or more years of supervisory experience
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, HR policies and practices, and strategies to attract and retain employees
  • Demonstrated strategic and critical thinking abilities to identify, evaluate, and address short- and long-term challenges and opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire collaboration within and outside of a group, encourage alternate solutions, and properly manage risk and reward
  • Advanced knowledge of change management principles and implementation approaches
  • Systems thinking demonstrated by the ability to focus on how an issue interacts with other components that must be considered
  • Creative and strong problem-solving abilities that promote win-win outcomes
  • Credible executive image demonstrated by polish, poise, and approachability
  • Reputation for preserving relationships even under difficult or challenging circumstances
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • An MBA or MS degree
  • Certified as a Senior Human Resource Professional or Professional Human Resource

Responsibilities

  • Develops a clear vision for the future of human resource policies, practices, and resources
  • Creates and translates SDL's business strategy into clear HR objectives and action plans that drive efficiency, process improvement, and readiness for the future
  • Oversees three HR teams: Staffing and Employee Services, Employee Relations and Staff Development, and Connection and Culture
  • Provides HR support to SDL's Board of Directors, particularly as related to Officers, overall site compensation and succession planning
  • Leads and/or supports organization development initiatives and practices
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities that serve as a model for SDL leaders that encourages openness, approachability, and mutual respect among team members
  • Effectively practices cross collaboration and other behaviors that unify SDL's workforce
  • Conveys a commitment to understanding what is best for key stakeholders including the lab, employees, customers, and other key constituencies such as Utah State University
