About The Position

The Director of the Holy Cross Justice Collaborative serves as a mission-centered leader for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation across the Family of Holy Cross. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and the charism of Holy Cross, the Director guides and strengthens shared justice commitments, ensuring initiatives are mission-aligned, strategically focused, and sustainable. The Director sets direction, stewards common priorities, and leads committees, staff, and partners in alignment with articulated justice goals and the broader mission of Holy Cross. By fostering strong global relationships, shared accountability, and effective structures for action, the Director sustains a cohesive, mission-driven approach to justice rooted in institutional integrity and social justice values. ROLE STRUCTURE: DUAL RESPONSIBILITY The Director leads in two distinct but related capacities, each with defined responsibilities accountability, and outcomes: 1. Holy Cross Justice Collaborative (Inter-Congregational) Provides leadership for justice collaboration among the four congregations of the Family of Holy Cross, with primary responsibility for convening and guiding the Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation Collaborators Committee. 2. Sisters of the Holy Cross Justice Office (Congregational) Advances justice priorities of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, including oversight, accompaniment, and formation of the Congregation Justice Committee (CJC). While some initiatives intersect, each area includes distinct planning, decision-making, and reporting responsibilities.

Requirements

Master’s degree required, ensuring competence in social justice.
Three-five years supervisory/management experience required. Must demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to current Catholic Social Teaching and in justice education and action.
Familiarity and congruence with the heritage, charism, and spirit of Holy Cross.
Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups in ways that foster cooperation, collaboration, and harmony.
Excellent organization and planning skills.
Ability to plan and execute engaging educational experiences regarding justice issues for both internal and external audiences.
Ability to develop publications, digital materials, and programs that can be shared internally and externally on justice-related topics:
Excellent research, writing and speaking skills; and
Proficiency in social analysis using integral ecology methodology.

Responsibilities

Advance a justice vision rooted in Catholic Social Teaching and the Holy Cross charism, integrating social analysis to strengthen impact.
Develop and implement annual and multi-year justice plans, ensuring continuity and responsiveness to emerging issues.
Report regularly to the Executive Committee and Sisters of the Holy Cross General Leadership, seeking guidance as priorities evolve.
Pursue grant funding to support the Collaborative’s mission.
Ensure effective functioning, formation, and mission alignment of the CJC.
Help translate congregational priorities into concrete justice initiatives.
Promote accountability, shared ownership, and global participation.
Convene and support the Justice, Peace, and Integration of Creation (JPIC) Collaborators Committee, including facilitation, translation, and interpretation.
Cultivate grassroots leadership and create virtual spaces that strengthen connection and collaboration among justice promoters.
Coordinate ongoing formation, education, dialogue, and action, including an annual global gathering for core justice promoters.
Foster inter-congregational relationships, collaboration, and shared discernment for joint justice initiatives.
Provide strategic oversight of justice formation and education initiatives across the Collaborative.
Ensuring formation efforts integrate faith, social analysis, and action.
Encourage the development of resources, prayer, and educational materials grounded in Holy Cross identity.
Delegate program design and implementation to staff, committees, and partners as appropriate.
Guide advocacy priorities and public witness in alignment with Catholic Social Teaching and leadership discernment.
Support awareness-building efforts that elevate global justice within the Holy Cross family.
Ensure advocacy initiatives are thoughtful, coordinated, and responsive to leadership guidance.
Assist in formulating and crafting justice position statements that address relevant and emerging justice issues.
Cultivate strategic relationships with justice networks, Catholic organizations, and global partners.
Serve as the representative designated to select external organizations (e.g., VIVAT International).
Represent the Collaborative in Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) committees.
Evaluate partnerships to ensure alignment with mission priorities and capacity.
Stay informed on global justice priorities and integrate best practices into the work of the Collaborative.
Provide oversight for service, immersion, and experiential learning opportunities across the Holy Cross family.
Ensure experiences integrate reflection, formation, and justice analysis.
Support staff and partners in designing experiences that foster long-term commitment to justice.
Develop and manage annual budgets for the Collaborative and the Sisters of the Holy Cross justice initiatives, ensuring alignment with annual priorities in partnership with Family of Holy Cross Council Liaisons.
Oversee financial operations, including invoices, expense reports, funding allocations, and compliance with financial guidelines.
Manage the donation process, directing funds to organizations aligned with the Sisters of the Holy Cross justice priorities.
Supervise and support justice staff, fostering a culture rooted in the mission, collaboration, and accountability.
Provide clear role definition, direction, and performance feedback.
Identify staffing needs and participate in hiring and annual evaluation processes.
Provide oversight of operational processes while delegating day-to-day administration as appropriate.
Supports sustainability and shared responsibility
Collaborate with the Sisters of the Holy Cross to support their justice priorities and initiatives.
Serve as a resource for advancing the Sisters’ social justice work through education, formation, and strategic collaboration.
Assist in amplifying the Sisters’ advocacy, outreach, and education efforts within the broader Holy Cross community.
Identify and recommend organizations that align with the Sisters’ justice priorities for potential annual donations and support.
Participate in the Laudato Si Campus Committee and support efforts to promote sustainability initiatives.
Provide updates and recommendations to the General Leadership Team on justice priorities and initiatives.
Collaborate with internal departments to advance the mission and justice initiatives of the Holy Cross Justice Collaborative.
Ensures that excellent communication and planning among the various components of the Justice Collaborative are maintained. In addition, plans with relevant Sisters of the Holy Cross departments such as Liturgy and Communications to provide access to their services and resources to the Holy Cross Family as needed.
Makes recommendations to the HCJC Executive Committee, after in-depth research on possible responses to social justice issues identified by the Executive Committee. Participates with others within or outside the Collaborative in taking action.
Addresses problems directly, with honesty, creativity, consultation, and research when needed.
Oversees the quality of service and communication to various constituents within and outside the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Work requires contact, both internally and externally, with other organizational representatives, motivating and influencing others with use of tact and poise. Position requires having the skills and finesse to oversee the provision of services and communication to various constituents nationally and internationally.
Supervises staff in the Sisters of the Holy Cross Justice department.
Projects, manages and monitors the Sisters of the Holy Cross Justice department budget; signs-off on approved budget items within the department.
