About The Position

The Director of Hip Research will work with physicians performing patient-centered hip outcomes research captured through SPRI’s Center for Outcomes-Based Orthopaedic Research (COOR), the longest-standing and most robust orthopaedic clinical outcomes database worldwide. They will perform data analysis and manage research projects. The Director of Hip Research will conduct and oversee operational and logistical tasks to ensure efficient execution of hip research within established budgets and timelines, ensuring all hip research activities occur in compliance with applicable regulations and maintain a focus on quality.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in related field required (public health, epidemiology, medical science, statistics, or data analytics, etc.).
  • Aptitude with data management and statistical analysis.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scientific methods, orthopaedic terminology, experimental design, and data collection principles.
  • Willingness to contribute to a diverse set of SPRI projects, including data analysis for studies beyond hip outcome projects.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD and/or 5+ years related research experience with practical applied knowledge of research principles.
  • Prior experience with SQL and at least one statistical software package (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with surgeons and scientists to lead data registry research projects investigating patient-centered outcomes following hip surgery.
  • Organize and lead a diverse team of contributors to successfully execute projects.
  • Oversee hip data registry collection methods, execution, organization, and quality control.
  • Develop research questions and study methods, compile data and perform analysis to address hypotheses.
  • Submit and maintain IRB applications and ensure protocol compliance throughout the project life cycle.
  • Manuscript preparation, submission, and follow-through during peer-review process.
  • Write abstracts, prepare podium and poster presentations for society meetings.
  • Write funding applications (industry, foundation, federal/state).
  • Conduct other categories of research - systematic reviews/meta-analysis, surgical technique papers, collaborations with other SPRI departments and extramural teams including USOPC.
  • Successfully manage multiple deadlines for numerous ongoing projects.
  • Contribute to ongoing research with DOD, NIH and IOC funded projects SPRI departments and extramural teams including USOPC.
