Design & Construction is seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Associate Project Manager to work within a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving transportation in the city through various transportation studies and projects. Under the direction of the Chief of Design, the Director of Highway Markings & Sign Design will be responsible for evaluating each NYC-maintained limited access highway corridor and their ramps for good design practice in accordance with the most recent MUTCD standards, identifying where sign addition, removal or modification improves safety (e.g. curve warning signs) or clarity, to proactively replace obsolete highway signs due to poor retro-reflectivity or improving messaging, to provide consistent addition of NYC Parkway shields for mainline and ramp wayfinding, and to coordinate marking change request where signs should be synchronized with markings. The Director will be responsible for review of capital projects on Limited Access Highways and ramps. This review includes assisting in preparation of Conceptual Designs, checking Schematic Geometric Designs by checking vehicle swept paths, review pavement marking plans, ensuring safe operations for all travel modes, summarizing comments, and coordinating their resolution. Additional responsibilities include managing the Limited Access Highway resurfacing program, specifically, assign and manage the resurfacing locations to other designers within all 5 Boroughs based on the other project workload and relevant SIP/Capital Projects to ensure all markings records are updated on time to prepare work order for contractor for implementations after resurfacing. The Director should have a working knowledge of AutoCAD. The Director should be able to perform safety assessments using both crash data and police reports. Familiarity with roadway access management principles and practices, as well as the city's curb cut review processes and procedures would be preferred. The Director should be capable of working independently and as supervisor and will be expected to work collaboratively with other agency representatives and external parties, including property owners, developers and their architectural and engineering consultants.
