Responsibilities

  • Plan and present a timeline of the admissions to 7th grade parents about concurrent processes
  • Create and ask families to complete questionnaire
  • In the spring, meet one-on-one with individual 7th grade families to begin to individualize and craft a list; strategize test prep and explain options based on 7th grade performance and CTP scores; utilizing data to help inform list; explaining complexities of FA
  • Begin work with 7th graders about the process, importance of social interactions with adults: handshakes, eye contact, making small talk
  • Present to 8th grade parents about processes: independent day, boarding, parochial, and public school process
  • Create mySchools accounts for each 8th grade family; input grades for “groups” in MySchools, manage student accommodations through NYCPS
  • Coordinate ISEE testing onsite alongside the Learning Specialist
  • Identity teachers/staff members to proctor the exam(s) based on need
  • Facilitate student accommodations for ISEE
  • Teach a HS Prep class once/week throughout fall semester covering various topics, depending on groups strength, weaknesses

  • Expectations of 8th graders–behavior at interviews, tours, etc
  • How to write meaningful thank you notes
  • Finding the right fit–moving past name brands
  • Conduct mock interviews for 8th grade students providing specific feedback to parents and students (via email)
  • Meet with parents throughout the process
  • Create and author 6th, 7th, and Fall 8th grade transcripts using narrative reports to translate into numerical grades
  • Read/edit all teacher and administrator recommendations
  • Construct each student’s file consisting of: 6th, 7th, & 8th grade transcripts, English, Math, & Administrator Recommendation, any outside recommendations
  • Send/upload all student files to all applicant schools (independent, parochial, boarding)
  • Collaborate closely with 8th grade team to learn about student strengths/areas of growth, including looping in Learning Specialist, School Psychologist, Division Head
  • Arrange/organize Writing Workshop for student essays for both public and independent schools
  • Create student file consisting of: Previous school year’s transcript, English, Math & Administrator Recommendation
  • Send/upload all student files to all applicant schools
  • Assist and coordinate US admissions assessments (in-person and virtual), folder review, and student tours
  • Participate in all Upper School admissions committee meetings
  • Assist with open houses and other admissions-related events throughout the year
  • Interview prospective parents (at the discretion of the Director of Admissions)
  • Organize events and communication in Upper School to support retention efforts
  • Assist with admissions events across the grades
  • Collaborate with the admissions office and take on additional duties as needed
