About The Position

The HSE Director is tasked with maintaining high safety and environmental standards through Continuous Improvement. This role requires knowledge of health, safety, and environmental matters to uphold a culture focused on safety. Effective communication and leadership skills are essential for team management. The position entails shaping company safety policies and culture by developing strategies, monitoring compliance, and reporting to senior management and regulators. Key responsibilities include reporting, policy development, decision-making, and overseeing HSE Managers and other safety associates. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools, such as Excel, Power BI, and data structures are necessary. The role involves extensive use of office productivity applications, data interpretation, visualization, reporting, and automation within business software.

Requirements

  • Strong safety mindset.
  • Possesses a bachelor's degree in administration and has five-ten years of management and leadership experience within a safety-related domain.
  • Experience in the warehousing, transportation, and manufacturing industry.
  • Regional or multi-site experience.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio, and Project.
  • Strong problem-solving and investigation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and classroom facilitation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to involve employees and leadership in team-building processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement long-term safety strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for emergencies and critical safety issues.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies that comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Adhere to OSHA, EPA, NFPA, Avetta, ISNET, and other applicable state and federal standards.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of training programs to build safety competencies across all levels of the organization.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify areas of exposure, and implement initiative-taking measures to mitigate hazards.
  • Track and report safety metrics to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven insights.
  • Direct and indirectly manage teams across North America, including regular meetings and on-site visits.
  • Function as the organization's representative in Safety Councils in North America and Germany.
  • Travel up to 70%.
