The Director of Global Site Security is responsible for standardizing, optimizing, and operating Medtronic’s global site security ecosystem – guard force services, physical security technology, and facility hardening – while ensuring a positive, friction‑light employee and visitor experience . This role translates enterprise security strategy into consistent, scalable, and cost‑effective site‑level execution across manufacturing, R&D, distribution, and office locations worldwide. This leader partners closely with Facilities, IT, HR, Real Estate, EHS, Technology Transformation, and regional business leaders to embed security into site design and daily operations – balancing risk reduction, compliance, and usability. This position will be onsite , based at a Medtronic site in the contiguous United States: Mounds View, MN / Minneapolis, MN (Twin Cities Campus) Irvine, CA / Santa Ana, CA (Orange County Campus) Tempe, AZ Boulder, CO / Lafayette, CO (Colorado Campus) Danvers, MA or Billerica, MA (Greater Boston area) Dexter, MI Grand Rapids, MI Mystic, CT / North Haven, CT Warsaw, IN Memphis, TN Swedesboro, NJ Eatontown, NJ Fort Worth, TX Jacksonville, FL Miami Lakes, FL Requires up to 30% travel per year. As the Director of Global Site Security, your key responsibilities will be:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in physical security or site security operations within a multinational environment and 7+ years of managerial experience; OR an Advanced Degree with 8 years of progressive experience in physical security or site security operations within a multinational environment and 7+ years of managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing guard force programs and physical security technologies at scale .
  • Strong vendor management, contract negotiation, and budget optimization experience.
  • Ability to influence without authority across regions and functions.
  • Fluent English; additional languages a plus.
  • Must maintain a current and valid Passport, with the ability to travel internationally up to 30%.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Professional certifications (CPP, PSP, or equivalent).
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, or other regulated environments.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Global Site Security Standards & Governance Establish and maintain global site security standards, playbooks, and design guidelines covering guarding, access control, video surveillance, visitor management, and perimeter controls. Translate risk assessments into tiered site security requirements based on site criticality, threat profile, and regulatory needs. Drive consistency while allowing for region‑specific adaptations aligned with local law and culture.
  • Guard Force Strategy & Optimization Lead the global guard force program , including operating model, post standards, training requirements, and performance metrics. Rationalize guarding levels and contracts to optimize cost, coverage, and service quality . Own global vendor strategy: RFPs, contract negotiations, SLAs, KPIs, and continuous improvement with guarding providers.
  • Security Technology & Innovation Own the global roadmap for physical security technology , including: Badge access and identity lifecycle management Video surveillance and analytics AI‑enabled monitoring and alerting Visitor registration and experience platforms Intrusion detection and duress systems Partner with IT and Technology Transformation to ensure secure, reliable, and privacy‑compliant system integration . Pilot and scale new technologies that improve security outcomes and employee experience .
  • Physical Barriers & Site Hardening Set standards for perimeter security, fencing, doors, turnstiles, and secure zones . Embed security requirements into new site selection, design reviews, renovations, and lease negotiations . Ensure security controls align with life safety, accessibility, and sustainability principles.
  • Employee & Visitor Experience Champion a hospitality‑minded security approach that protects people while enabling productivity and ease of movement. Reduce friction through smart design, automation, and clear communication. Partner with HR, Workplace Experience, and Communications to support onboarding, badge issuance, and visitor flows.
  • Metrics, Assurance & Continuous Improvement Define and track global site security KPIs (coverage, incidents, response times, cost efficiency, user satisfaction). Conduct periodic site assessments and audits to validate compliance with standards. Use data and insights to continuously improve security effectiveness and experience.
  • Leadership & Collaboration Lead a small global center‑led team and matrixed regional partners. Serve as the primary site‑security advisor to Facilities and regional leadership. Coordinate with Legal, Compliance, and Risk on investigations and regulatory matters impacting sites.
