About The Position

Orbia's Fluor & Energy Materials Business is hiring a Director of Global Regulatory & Government Affairs based in the USA (Remote). This role requires up to 50% international travel. The Director of Global Regulatory and Government Affairs will lead the company’s global strategy on regulatory compliance and government engagement, with a specific focus on fluorochemical refrigerants. This role ensures that the company operates in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations worldwide, while also proactively shaping policy and regulatory frameworks that impact our business. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in fluorinated gases (HFCs, HFOs), international environmental policy (e.g., Montreal Protocol, Kigali Amendment), and has a strong network of regulatory and government stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Policy, Law, or a related field; advanced degree (JD, MS, PhD, or MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in regulatory affairs, government affairs, or legal/policy roles within the chemical, fluorochemical, or environmental sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of fluorinated refrigerant regulatory landscape globally.
  • Proven track record influencing policy and navigating complex regulatory frameworks.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Mandarin) are a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate complex regulatory issues to non-experts.
  • Strong negotiation, advocacy, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the global regulatory strategy for fluorochemical products, focusing on refrigerants.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging regulations affecting fluorochemicals (e.g., F-gas Regulation, AIM Act).
  • Provide regulatory risk assessments and advise executive leadership on potential business impacts.
  • Ensure global product compliance with registration, labeling, transport, safety, and reporting requirements.
  • Represent the company in international and domestic regulatory bodies, industry associations, and policy discussions.
  • Advocate for science-based policy and regulatory approaches at national and international levels.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
  • Partner with G & T, Legal, Sustainability, Product Management, Marketing, and Commercial teams to align business objectives with regulatory strategies.
  • Provide internal guidance on strategic product development and market access issues.
  • Support crisis management efforts involving regulatory or governmental challenges.
  • Engage with customs authorities and trade agencies to address illegal trade issues and protect the company’s market.
  • Provide strategic input on quota allocations, import/export controls, and international treaties impacting refrigerants.
