The Director of Generation Operations is a pivotal role within the Burlington Electric Department (BED), responsible for overseeing the operations of the McNeil Generating Station and the Chace Mill Winooski One Hydroelectric generation assets. This position entails not only the management of these facilities but also the maintenance and capital improvements for the Chace Mill Winooski One Hydroelectric, Airport Solar, and BED Pine Street Solar facilities. The Director will provide high-quality leadership, communication, and management for McNeil operations and Winooski One personnel, ensuring that all operations align with the mandates set forth by the Public Utility Commission (PUC) and other relevant state and federal regulations. In this role, the Director will manage the generating facilities and fuel procurement, supervise shift supervisors and personnel, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and collective bargaining agreements. The position requires the development and management of annual operating and capital budgets for the various facilities, as well as the implementation of inspection and maintenance plans. The Director will also coordinate with various departments and stakeholders to ensure effective operations and support innovation projects that complement the generation facilities. The Director will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues related to forced outages, conducting safety checks, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Additionally, the role involves preparing specifications for engineering services, evaluating proposals, and overseeing installations. The Director will also be expected to maintain open communication with the McNeil Joint Owners and other city departments, ensuring that all operations are conducted efficiently and effectively while promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
