Director of FP&A

SolaceRedwood City, CA

About The Position

As a Director, FP&A at Solace, you will own the planning and performance engine of the business. You will take over the model, and own forecasting, budgeting, and put together a set of decisions the company can actually execute. You’ll build and run Solace’s financial planning cadence across revenue, headcount, and spend; develop the narratives that align leadership; and make sure we know where we’re going, what it costs to get there, and what needs to change when reality does what reality always does. You’re a self-starter who likes being in the center of the action. You will partner with leaders across Solace, building the muscle of planning, and holding the line on rigor without slowing the company down. This is a role that will start as an individual contributor and eventually manage a team. This is for the ambitious, the curious, and those who don’t shy away from feedback. This is a unique opportunity as an FP&A leader, reporting directly to our CFO. This job is a hybrid role with the in-office portion in Redwood City, CA, 3 days a week.

Requirements

  • A bias toward action and execution. You have an exceptional craving for momentum, and you thrive on timelines that would be unrealistic for most others.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a refined palate for controlled chaos.
  • A builder’s mentality: You build the systems and cadence that make FP&A real.
  • Strong business judgment. You can separate signal from noise, and you’re comfortable making recommendations when the data is imperfect.
  • Great communication skills that help you work across departments to make visions come to life and to say “no” (or “not yet”) with clarity and credibility.
  • No job too big or too small.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in FP&A, Strategic Finance, Investment Banking, Private Equity, or a high-performance operating environment. Ideally with experience partnering closely with senior leaders and building planning processes in a fast-growing company.
  • Applicants must be based in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Modeling & Forecasting: Own and evolve Solace’s forecasting model across revenue, gross margin, retention, CAC payback, burn/runway, and unit economics.
  • Annual & Long-Term Planning: Lead the annual planning cycle across headcount, revenue targets, budgets, and multi-scenario planning. Partner with leadership to set targets that are ambitious and will be hit.
  • Monthly Performance Management: Run monthly variance reviews, identify what moved and why, and translate performance into decisions: where to invest, where to pause, and what needs to change.
  • Board & Investor Reporting: Lead board materials and presentations, distilling the story into clear insights, crisp metrics, and concrete actions.
  • Cross-Functional Business Partnership: Serve as the finance partner to functional leads. You’ll be the person who can translate “we want to do X” into “here’s what it costs, here’s the tradeoff, here’s the plan.”
  • Accounting Partnership: Work closely with our internal accountants and our outsourced accounting firm to support an efficient close, clean management reporting, and investor-ready outputs. Ensure planning and actuals reconcile cleanly.
  • Automation & Systems: Improve the tooling and automation behind reporting and forecasting. Reduce manual work. Increase signal. Make finance faster.
  • Be autonomous. You’ll take full ownership of your work, and you take responsibility for every last detail, every step of the way.
  • Rapidly produce and launch concepts while laughing in the face of potential failure.
  • Provide up-to-date visibility into current priorities and ensure the right stakeholders are involved at the right time. You’ll document decisions and action items and follow up with owners on commitments.
