About The Position

The Director of Flight Education at Auburn University is responsible for leading and advancing the flight education program within the College of Liberal Arts. This role encompasses comprehensive leadership and strategic oversight of the School of Aviation's flight education program, ensuring the highest standards of education and training for aspiring aviation professionals. The director will oversee all facets of flight and maintenance programs, manage operational teams, and foster a positive working culture while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Sciences, Business Management, Finance, or related field.
  • 7 years of experience in flight operations, fleet management, and business management of operations.
  • Experience leading and/or managing a large operations function, including maintenance, facilities, and staff.
  • At least 5 years' experience supervising full-time staff.
  • In-depth understanding of FAA regulations, industry trends, and accreditation processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the flight education program.
  • Oversee flight and maintenance operations, supervising the Chief Flight Instructor and Director of Maintenance.
  • Create and refine policies, procedures, and best practices for the Professional Flight team.
  • Manage flight, simulator, and maintenance operational teams to ensure efficient operational flow.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, FAA regulations, and industry safety standards.
  • Implement and maintain a robust safety culture and effective Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate instructional and administrative staff members.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working culture that promotes collaboration and professional growth.
  • Forecast, direct, and approve equipment acquisitions to meet pilot training needs.
  • Allocate resources to ensure safe and effective conduct of academic courses.
  • Ensure high student satisfaction and success through effective program management.
  • Support the development and enhancement of the flight education curriculum.
  • Oversee the program budget to ensure efficient use of resources and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with university supporting entities and maintain relationships with aviation industry partners.
