About The Position

We are seeking a Director of Fiscal Transparency to join our Office of Finance and Information Technology at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a permanent Management Service position. This position is a hybrid role that allows for remote work when business needs permit. Travel and on-site presence at the central office or alternate locations are required for meetings, collaboration, and other operational activities. The Director of Fiscal Transparency will play a pivotal role in leading and implementing strategies to enhance fiscal transparency within the organization and to external partners as well as the general public. As ODE’s Director of Fiscal Transparency, you will oversee the development and implementation of initiatives, provide the legislature, school districts, and the general public with comprehensive access to financial data and insights from Oregon school districts and ESD, and lead a team responsible for overseeing data collection related to Average Daily Membership Weighted (ADMw). You will also interface with School District and Education Service Districts’ Superintendents and budget managers, review audited financials from School District Education Service Districts, and collaborate closely with interagency offices on efforts such as dashboarding for internal and external use.

Requirements

  • Seven years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience; OR four years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is strongly preferred.
  • A Master’s degree in Accountancy or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of governmental fund accounting, including application of GAAP and GASB standards.
  • Proven expertise in financial systems, data reconciliation, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Power BI or comparable data analytics and visualization tools.
