About The Position

The Director of Finances provides strategic, mission-aligned financial leadership to ensure Dream Center Evansville operates with excellence, integrity, and long-term sustainability. This role serves as the organization’s internal final control system builder, strengthening financial infrastructure, ensuring GAAP compliance, safeguarding assets, and building systems that protect and advance Dream Center’s mission. The Director of Finances collaborates across all departments and works closely with the Executive Director, Finance Committee, auditors, and third-party accounting partners. This role also partners closely with Human Resources for payroll oversight and personnel-related financial processes, and represents Dream Center Evansville in vendor relationships connected to facilities, grounds, fleet, rental properties, and physical and digital infrastructure. The Director of Finances pursues the strongest possible financial position for Dream Center through people-minded processes that place mission above all.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 5–7 years of nonprofit finance or accounting experience required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and financial reporting systems.
  • Professional presence and ability to engage effectively with board members, auditors, and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Strategy & Stewardship Lead annual budgeting and multi-year financial planning in partnership with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and team leads.
  • Provide financial forecasting, scenario planning, and analysis to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor organizational performance against budget and provide variance analysis and recommendations.
  • Oversee reserve strategy, liquidity planning, and long-term sustainability planning.
  • Promote disciplined stewardship aligned with mission and board-approved financial policies.
  • Accounting Systems, Controls & Compliance Oversee implementation and maintenance of GAAP-compliant accounting systems.
  • Serve as the organization’s internal control system builder, ensuring appropriate segregation of duties, safeguards, and accountability structures.
  • Oversee accounting operations including payables, receivables, payroll (in partnership with HR), and financial reporting.
  • Supervise internal finance staff and serve as liaison to the third-party accounting firm.
  • Coordinate annual audit preparation and ensure audit readiness.
  • Oversee IRS Form 990 preparation and filing.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and board financial policies.
  • Treasury & Asset Management Oversee treasury management, banking relationships, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Maintain oversight of multiple revenue streams and funding types within a $2.4M+ annual operating budget.
  • Develop and manage systems for stewardship of organizational assets including facilities, vehicles, equipment, and capital improvements.
  • Monitor risk exposure and recommend policies that protect financial and physical assets.
  • Grant & Revenue Financial Oversight Oversee financial management of grants and restricted funds, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Development and Program teams to support responsible deployment of funds.
  • Provide timely financial reports for leadership, the Board, and funders.
  • Support revenue forecasting and financial modeling aligned with fundraising strategy.
  • Infrastructure & Vendor Stewardship Oversee the care and maintenance of our buildings and grounds.
  • Manage and supervise the work of the Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker.
  • Represent Dream Center Evansville in vendor relationships related to facilities, grounds, and operational infrastructure.
  • Provide financial oversight of fleet management, kitchen operations, and rental properties to ensure sustainability and compliance.
  • Oversee financial aspects of capital improvement planning and major contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with insurance, safety, and regulatory requirements tied to organizational assets.
  • Board & Leadership Partnership Prepare clear, timely financial reports for the Executive Director and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Present financial insights and risk analysis in a professional, strategic manner.
  • Support board-level fiduciary oversight through transparency and proactive communication.
  • Strengthen financial literacy across departments to reinforce shared stewardship.
