About The Position

This executive will serve as the VP's principal financial partner and will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and audit readiness, with a strong emphasis on defense industry regulations (FAR/FDARS, ITAR, DCAA). The ideal candidate combines Big 4-level technical accounting rigor with operational manufacturing finance expertise and experience in DoD contracting environments.

  • CPA required.
  • 8+ years progressive finance/accounting experience.
  • 3+ years in a senior Controller or Assistant Controller role.
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification and reference checks.

  • Experience supporting SBIR programs or DoD Phase III awards.
  • Experience in private equity-backed or high-growth environments.
  • Familiarity with ITAR compliance and export-controlled operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations (GL, AP/AR, payroll, cost accounting, revenue recognition).
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Deliver board-ready reporting packages and KPI dashboards.
  • Provide lender reporting and covenant compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), as applicable.
  • Oversee DCAA audit readiness and incurred cost submissions.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to support federal contracting requirements.
  • Manage indirect rate structures, cost pools, and project accounting.
  • Oversee standard cost development, variance analysis, and inventory controls.
  • Partner with operations to improve margin visibility and cost transparency.
  • Analyze production efficiency, overhead allocation, and supply chain cost drivers.
  • Support capital expenditure analysis and ROI modeling for manufacturing expansion
  • Assist VP in strategic planning, forecasting, and long-range financial modeling.
  • Support M&A due diligence, integration, and financial modeling.
  • Partner in capital raise initiatives, banking relationships, and private investment diligence.
  • Provide financial modeling support for new product initiatives and R&D programs.
  • Maintain strong internal control framework (SOX-like discipline preferred).
  • Oversee insurance, treasury operations, and cash management.
  • Implement scalable financial systems and ERP optimization.
  • Ensure ITAR financial segregation where required.
  • Lead and develop accounting and finance staff.
  • Establish high-performance financial discipline aligned with a growth-oriented defense technology company.
  • Build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and responsiveness.
