About The Position

The Director of Finance leads KIPP MA’s finance and accounting functions, managing resources that fuel our progress toward impact, sustainability, and scale. An experienced manager aligned with KIPP MA’s values and culture, the Director oversees a team of finance staff; and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director is a key leader in KIPP MA’s Regional Office, collaborating with staff across our region and schools in Lynn and Boston. Bringing sophisticated finance expertise, the Director manages: Financial Operations, Controls & Compliance; Financial Reporting; and Budgeting & Forecasting. This role requires consistent and reliable demonstration of the following essential job functions and key responsibilities:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Baseline familiarity with grants administration

Responsibilities

  • Manage finance team to ensure invoices are paid on time and expense/invoice data is accurately imported from the accounts payable software into the accounting software
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer with the preparation of financial statements, the DESE Charter School End of Year Financial report, monthly/quarterly budget reports and forecasts, and other required financial reports
  • Oversee finance portions of public grants management, including budgeting, reporting and drawdowns
  • Oversee tax reporting
  • Ensure that KIPP MA receives a clean audit each year; lead the organization’s annual audit process
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer with board and bank reporting
  • Lead the finance team, including managing and developing the Finance Manager and Finance Coordinator
  • Lead the finance team’s work on ensuring that the organization is structuring financial decisions through an equitable lens
  • Lead budget meetings with school leadership and regional office directors
  • Develop systems for monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations; oversee timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close
  • Ensure KIPP MA is up to date regarding compliance and best practices with DESE and other state and federal regulations, tax, and accounting issues
  • Develop and maintain a documented system of financial policies and procedures and communicate and manage organization on fiscal policies and procedures
  • Work closely with the development team to track and reconcile private grants; ensure that grant expenses are properly tracked and accounted for
  • Identify and execute opportunities for system and process improvements
  • Embody KIPP MA’s Code of Conduct by acting with integrity, leading with humanity, centering self-awareness and critical consciousness, taking personal responsibility, and engaging productively
  • Participate and engage in regional professional development and community events as required
  • KIPP MA educators are supported in their demanding work by experienced and dedicated leadership and staff who have themselves proven successful in their role. Our KIPP MA Executive Leadership Teams maintain consistent systems and procedures designed to permit educators to do their best work. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, there will occasionally be other duties as assigned that staff will engage in to help promote a positive and safe learning environment and culture.

Benefits

  • The minimum base salary range for this exempt position is $90,000 to $108,000 (per 1.0 FTE/45 hours per week) with a $1,000 signing bonus—and an annual $2,000 retention bonus in subsequent years, as well as other bonuses, when eligible.
