The Office of the Secretary and Vice President for University Life provides leadership for the support, cultivation, and celebration of Yale's community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni; helps guide the university's work to strengthen community and belonging in service of the university's mission; crafts the vision for student life for all students at Yale, furthering the university's aspirations to be the most student-focused research university in the world; and as steward for the University's traditions, plans and produces the most significant university ceremonies and events, including Commencement weekend, Opening Assembly, the annual Veterans Day ceremony, MA Privatim, and other special events. Reporting to the Lead Administrator (LA) and with latitude for exercising discretion and independent judgment, the Director of Finance helps manage the Secretary's division annual operating expenses of nearly $19M. The Director of Finance also provides close monitoring and oversight of the financial activity of the Yale Alumni Association (YAA) and the Yale Alumni Magazine (YAM) and, together with local financial resources and the LA, is responsible for budgeting and forecasting for those two units.
