About The Position

At Houston Methodist, the Director Finance position is responsible for directing the financial operations and financial planning of assigned entity and ensures the smooth running of the hospital's finances through effective oversight of internal controls, reporting, policy implementation and improving financial processes. This position may also direct the accounts payable function which includes directing the execution and tracking of accounts payable to ensure timely and accurate payment of invoices in accordance with company policies and procedures. The Director Finance position seeks out opportunities for ongoing automation and efficiency and interfaces with all levels across the organization and with external vendors to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in finance, of which two years must have been in a people management role.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare finance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the activities of the department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency to accomplish strategic and operational objectives.
  • Accountable for employee engagement, adequate staffing levels, budget development and compliance, staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment.
  • Coaching and counseling employees on work related performance, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
  • Directing, developing and implementing strategic and operational/high level projects and processes either through independent/highly autonomous work or through the facilitation of work teams.
  • Overseeing management of and ensuring development for staff to meet overall objectives in terms of quality, service and cost effectiveness.
  • Providing leadership and communication to maintain a competent and engaged employee group by conducting regular department meetings.
  • Identifying opportunities and taking action to build strategic relationships between one's area and other areas, teams, departments, and units to achieve business goals.
  • Overseeing department operations, designated projects, schedules and activities as needed to ensure that goals or objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame.
  • Directing the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses and information reports.
  • Ensuring a safe and effective working environment; monitoring and/or revising the department safety plan and/or any specific accreditation/regulatory required safety guidelines.
  • Developing and managing department operational and capital budgets, approvals, and ongoing maintenance of the department(s).
  • Identifying and implementing innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes to improve department, entity or system operations.
