About The Position

The Director of Finance – Business Development & Commercial serves as a strategic financial advisor to the Sales and Marketing departments, providing analytical and operational support to inform decisions related to new business initiatives and capital investments. This position plays a critical role in optimizing financial performance by evaluating revenue and expenditure trends, identifying opportunities for profitability enhancement, and ensuring alignment between financial strategies and organizational objectives. The Director is responsible for leading weekly Investment Council meetings with senior leadership, overseeing sales incentive programs, and conducting financial assessments of new base opportunities within Air Medical Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Finance or Accounting from four-year college or university.
  • Ten (10) years’ related experience and/or training; MBA preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with M&A, deal modeling, and pro-forma analysis.
  • Experience with capital budgeting methodologies (NPV, ROIC, IRR).
  • Knowledge of healthcare services and aircraft operations preferred.
  • Previous consulting experience preferred (internal or external).
  • Demonstrate high critical thinking and reasoning skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills (DCF, comparables, precedent transactions).
  • Proven ability to confidently develop and present recommendations from accurate assessments and/or analysis.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial insights to senior leadership.
  • Ability to be a team player with a professional attitude.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand business situations, strategies, theory, processes, management, budgeting and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support business development objectives.
  • Conduct pro-forma analysis and build financial models to evaluate new business opportunities.
  • Analyze performance metrics and financial trends to identify areas for profitability improvement.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process with deeper involvement than prior role holders, focusing on base-level growth and sales/marketing expense planning.
  • Deliver detailed financial forecasts and perform variance analysis to support strategic planning.
  • Fully own and lead the Investment Council process, independently coordinating, evaluating, and presenting capital investment proposals using methodologies such as NPV, ROIC, and IRR.
  • Facilitate weekly Investment Council meetings, partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to assess and validate capital expenditure decisions.
  • Prepare and present investment reviews to senior leadership, offering strategic insights to guide decision-making.
  • Oversee the calculation and timely distribution of sales team incentives, ensuring accuracy and alignment with performance metrics.
  • Provide clear, actionable financial insights to executives and cross-functional teams to support operational decisions.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to evaluate new base opportunities and respond to RFPs.
  • Partner with regional leadership to define financial performance goals and measurement criteria for new initiatives.
  • Conduct look-back reviews on new base performance and support M&A activities through due diligence and deal modeling.
  • Lead and manage a team of Analysts responsible for in-depth analysis of Direct Maintenance Costs, providing strategic direction and technical guidance.
  • Set clear performance expectations, offer ongoing coaching, and support professional development to foster a high-performance finance team.
  • Promote a collaborative work environment and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
  • Implement and maintain controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
