About The Position

The Director of Finance and Accounting serves as the district’s senior administrator responsible for the daily oversight and execution of all finance and accounting operations, under the direction of the Chief Deputy Finance & Operations Officer. This position ensures the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of the district’s financial systems while supporting strategic fiscal planning and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related business or management field is required.
  • The district seeks an individual with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in finance and accounting within a public sector or school district environment. This experience should include oversight of budgeting, financial reporting, general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
  • At least five (5) years of this experience must include supervisory or management responsibilities, with demonstrated success in leading finance teams and ensuring strong internal controls and fiscal accountability.
  • Demonstrated strength in organizational, communication (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively prepare and present complex financial information to executive leadership, stakeholder groups, and the Board of Directors/Board of Education in a clear and professional manner.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or Google Workspace applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial management systems, accounting software, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in a public sector or school district environment.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Professional certification and/or affiliation with the Arkansas Association of School Business Officials (AASBO) or a comparable organization is also preferred.
  • Experience with eFinance and TimeClock Plus is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, organize, direct, and supervise all financial and accounting operations of the district in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as Board of Education policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the preparation, review, and recording of all district financial transactions, including disbursements, payroll, and revenue, to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate reconciliation of all district bank accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares and oversees all financial reports generated through the accounting function, including required state and federal reports; coordinates with internal and external auditors and provides requested documentation and support.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and oversees the implementation and maintenance of financial and accounting systems and related technology.
  • Provides guidance and support to administrators and district staff on financial and accounting matters.
  • Collaborates with departments to meet operational needs while ensuring alignment with approved budgets, financial policies, and sound fiscal practices.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities within the scope of employment as assigned by the Chief Deputy Finance & Operations Officer and/or Superintendent of Schools, consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies.
