The Director of Field Services at the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is a leadership role within the College of Education, Health, and Rehabilitation. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of PreK-12 field experiences, including student placements, support, supervision of field faculty, and field-based assessments. The Director also serves as an academic advisor and liaison with public schools, ensuring effective collaboration and communication between the university and educational institutions.

  • Participates as a member of the College of Education Leadership Team.
  • Manages, monitors, and analyzes the field services budget and provides recommendations.
  • Provides leadership, supervision, evaluation, and development within the Field Services team.
  • Creates, organizes, and delivers meetings for students and/or field supervisors.
  • Assists with field-based assessment and the preparation of accreditation reports.
  • Provides support to field supervisors whenever issues arise.
  • Researches and shares best practices in effective field experiences and supervision.
  • Collaborates with Global Education to inform students about international opportunities for student teaching.
  • Oversees student teaching eligibility, placements, portfolio presentations, and recommendations for certification.
  • Develops, implements, and utilizes online/electronic tools and resources to streamline processes.
  • Serves as an academic advisor to Education majors.
  • Creates and supports field placements outside of the formalized undergraduate practicum and student teaching experiences.
  • Coordinates with UMS faculty to ensure effective delivery of Elementary Physical Education methods, Middle & Secondary PE methods, and Adaptive PE methods.
  • Partners with UMF students and local schools to coordinate, support, and align fieldwork opportunities with course requirements and educational goals.
  • Master's degree in Education or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years teaching experience
  • Evidence of school leadership roles
  • Demonstrated supervisory and managerial experience
  • Experience mentoring practicum students and/or student teachers
  • Experience developing and presenting in-service training
  • Experience working at a regional public institution of higher education
  • Experience planning and facilitating programs and services
