About The Position

The Director of Faculty Experience Initiatives supports faculty lifespan processes and programs spanning hiring, onboarding, retention, belonging, and thriving. Working under the direction of the Associate Provost for Faculty Excellence and Mission Integration, the Director provides implementation, coordination, assessment, and sustained follow-through across initiatives related to mission-aligned and equity-minded hiring; teacher-scholar engagement with mission; and faculty well-being and thriving. Grounded in LMU’s Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount traditions, this position advances the University’s commitments to equity, justice, and the common good through the accompaniment of faculty across career stages via programs, support structures, and engagement initiatives. The Director collaborates closely with the Center for Faculty Development, the Office of Mission Engagement, college and department leadership, and Institutional Research and Decision Support. This role is part of LMU’s cross-divisional Mission Integration initiative and works in close coordination with Mission Integration personnel across units.

Requirements

  • Typically a Master’s degree in a related field and a record of scholarly achievement or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in faculty affairs, faculty development, or academic administration, with demonstrated involvement in faculty hiring, retention, and/or thriving initiatives.
  • Experience with Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount values and educational traditions through professional practice and/or educational background.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting institutional transformation, culture and climate change, or large-scale equity minded initiatives in higher education.
  • Experience working with survey data, climate assessments, or program evaluation to inform evidence-based improvement.
  • Proven ability to navigate conflict, disagreement, and complex institutional dynamics with emotional intelligence, discretion, and integrity.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, organizational, and relationship building skills across diverse constituencies.

Responsibilities

  • Faculty Outreach, Recruitment, and Hiring Contribute to the design and facilitation of capacity‑building opportunities related to mission‑aligned and inclusive hiring, including workshops, consultations, and search committee preparation.
  • Help translate research and best practices related to inclusive excellence and faculty retention into practical, actionable strategies.
  • Support colleges and departments in strengthening equity‑minded and mission‑aligned hiring practices that align with institutional priorities.
  • Assist search committees in centering equitable, transparent, and accessible evaluation practices, including attention to bias mitigation.
  • Coordinate resources, materials, and programming developed by Academic Affairs to support faculty hiring efforts.
  • Track hiring and onboarding practices and contribute to the collection and analysis of data to identify patterns and areas for improvement.
  • Faculty Retention, Belonging, and Thriving Ground all work in LMU’s Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount traditions, with particular attention to cura personalis, reflection, and discernment.
  • Serve as a member of the Mission Integration team, ensuring alignment and coordination of faculty‑focused initiatives across campus.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities and transition supports for new faculty and faculty at other key career stages.
  • Implement and coordinate faculty retention and engagement initiatives as directed by the Associate Provost.
  • Provide operational and project‑management support for special initiatives led by the Associate Provost.
  • Assist with planning and execution of faculty‑related events, workshops, and retreats.
  • Gather and synthesize faculty feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the assessment, documentation, and dissemination of effective practices that support long‑term faculty success and belonging.
  • Prepare drafts of reports, summaries, and data visualizations for review by the Associate Provost.
  • Culture and Climate Support assessments of faculty culture and climate, including focus groups, listening sessions, and other qualitative methods.
  • Assist colleges and departments in translating institutional priorities related to culture, climate, and belonging into actionable practices.
  • Coordinate follow‑up actions, documentation, and communication connected to climate and engagement initiatives.
  • Support efforts to translate LMU’s designations as a Hispanic‑Serving Institution (HSI), Black‑Serving Institution (BSI), and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander‑Serving Institution (AANAPISI) into meaningful, sustained, and measurable practices.
  • Contribute to long‑term institutional change efforts that strengthen belonging, trust, and thriving among faculty across identities, disciplines, and career stages.
  • Navigate moments of conflict, disagreement, and institutional tension with skill, humility, and a commitment to generative outcomes.
  • Advance practices that foster a healthy campus climate, including restorative and relationship‑centered approaches to harm, repair, and reconciliation.
