About The Position

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Director of Facilities Management SUNY Morrisville seeks an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking facilities management professional to lead Facilities Operations and Maintenance. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter who demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to inspire teams while advancing the college's mission. The Director of Facilities Operations and Maintenance oversees the care and operation of approximately 1.6 million square feet of campus facilities across the main campus and the Norwich satellite campus. The position is responsible for ensuring clean, safe, efficient, and sustainable physical environments that support academic and operational excellence The department consists of over 80 employees across custodial, grounds, vehicle fleet, garage, central receiving, general building maintenance and trades, campus mail, wastewater treatment, utilities and HVAC, access control, lighting, life-safety, HVAC automation, and other low voltage automation systems. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Administration & Finance, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The Director works closely with Design & Construction, Environmental Health & Safety, Residence Life, Human Resources, University Police, Technology Services, and other campus units to ensure consistent, reliable operations and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management, business administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in facilities operations, maintenance, or related fields.
  • At least three years of supervisory experience managing multiple teams or a large facilities workforce.

  • Experience managing facilities operations for complex, multi-building organizations with 50 or more staff.
  • Prior experience in higher education or within the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
  • Knowledge of central utility plant operations, HVAC systems, building automation controls, and energy management.
  • Familiarity with DEC and EPA environmental compliance, including Petroleum Bulk Storage and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) regulations.
  • Experience in custodial and grounds best practices and sustainability initiatives.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as NetFacilities and AiM.
  • Working proficiency in Bluebeam or comparable digital plan review software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational management for all Facilities Operations and Maintenance activities at both campuses.
  • Continuously evaluate organizational structure, staffing, and workflows to enhance efficiency and effectiveness with limited resources.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and metrics to ensure accountability, performance improvement, and staff engagement.
  • Promote professional development and training opportunities to enhance skills, motivation, and job satisfaction among all team members.
  • Conduct regular inspections of campus buildings, systems, and grounds; identify priorities and implement corrective actions within budgetary constraints.
  • Lead and manage operating budgets in coordination with the Vice President of Administration and Finance ensuring responsible stewardship of state and campus funds.
  • Collaborate with maintenance supervisors and staff to plan and execute complex repair and renovation projects, balancing in-house work and contracted services.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs integrated with the campus work order management system.
  • Partner with other departmental staff to identify and implement energy conservation measures.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements, including EO22, and other SUNY and state reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with Design & Construction to represent operational needs in project design and implementation.
  • Respond to emergencies after hours or coordinate staff response as needed to maintain continuous operations.
  • Maintain and monitor service contracts, vendor performance, and regulatory inspections to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department.
