About The Position

BASIC FUNCTION: Provide quality educational programs for students in special education, in order to ensure they will derive the greatest benefit from their educational experience; Supervise and coordinate the direction of special education activities and programs. Five (5) succesfull years of Special Education Teaching and Kentucky Certification for Director of Special Education required.

Responsibilities

• Determine the total personnel needs (teachers, aides, therapists, etc.) for special education programs and related services.
• Make recommendations to the Superintendent.
• Identify resources needed to implement the special education program objectives.
• Implement procedures for evaluation of goals, strategies, program models and program effectiveness.
• Conduct and/or apply research for improving special education program.
• Develop, implement and monitor procedures to identify, locate and evaluate students with disabilities. (includes “Child Find”).
• Administer a comprehensive system for recording and reporting pupil data including a “child tracking system”.
• Develop, implement and monitor due process procedures for children with disabilities and their parents.
• Develop procedures to contract for special education services that are not available in the local district.
• Develops and implements a system for monitoring Individual Education Programs (IEP’s).
• Assist the Transportation Director in meeting special transportation needs.
• Work with the Finance Director in the development of all budgets for the special education programs/grants.
• Interpret the impact of local, state or federal policy mandates on the special education program budgets.
• Identify resources, the development of grant proposals and implement grant proposals for special education program.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the budget in meeting the needs of pupils in special education programs.
• Supervise and direct district special education programs and activities for grades K-12.
• Supervise district psychological services and activities.
• Coordinate services for the Children’s Campus, including the evaluation of Danville staff assigned to work at the Campus.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
