About The Position

The Director of Equipment is senior management position responsible for overseeing the organization’s entire heavy machinery, focusing on strategic management, cost control, maintenance, procurement, safety and utilization to ensure operations efficiency. This involves developing maintenance programs, managing repair/replacement cycles, tracking performance, negotiating contracts, planning capital expenditures, and ensuring the supply chain aligns with business goals. This role also includes tasks such as prequalifying vendors, analyzing equipment specifications, and monitoring the market for trends.

  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and abilities listed qualifies.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive management experience in heavy equipment operations, maintenance, or fleet management.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in managing and leading a structured fleet management program.
  • Physically able to work seated in front of a computer for long hours at a time.
  • Ability to travel to and from various jobsite locations as required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic planning includes developing annual plans, budget input, and long-term asset strategies.
  • Develops and implements long-term procurement strategies for heavy equipment to support company goals.
  • Implements preventive maintenance, coordinates repairs, and manages service agreements.
  • Manages equipment acquisition, sales, and replacement cycles.
  • Negotiates favorable terms on contracts for the purchase or lease of equipment, parts, and services; Skilled in negotiating final repair invoices with vendors.
  • Minimizes costs through standardization, performance tracking, and efficient utilization.
  • Ensures all operations meet safety standards, regulations, and manages licenses/inspections.
  • Identifies and maintains strong relationships with equipment manufacturers and vendors.
  • Monitors market trends, economic factors, and current rates to make informed decisions and identify potential obstacles.
  • Works with estimating, project management, and finance to understand equipment needs and ensure procurement aligns with requirements; Resolves issues as needed with a high level of professionalism.
  • Manages risks associated with the supply chain and ensures compliance with policies and regulations; Maintains correct levels of inventory.
  • Provides input on equipment selection, manages equipment schedules, and tracks performance and maintenance needs.
  • Ensures all shop and field service work is performed in an efficient manner.
  • Coordinates materials, equipment, and purchasing for proper equipment maintenance and tracking to keep jobs at an efficient production pace.
  • Responsible for the management of the equipment maintenance facility. This includes the orderly appearance of the facility.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
