About The Position

The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Environmental Services department within a healthcare facility. This role involves planning, organizing, and supervising housekeeping and laundry services to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents. The Director will also be accountable for staff management, compliance with regulations, and maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of an eighth-grade education.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity in a healthcare facility or equivalent training.
  • Experience in institutional Environmental Services practices and procedures.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, and the public.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations including JCAHO, OSHA, and IDPH.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, develop, evaluate, supervise, and direct the operations of the Environmental Services department.
  • Ensure the quality of housekeeping and laundry services provided daily.
  • Safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of all residents.
  • Implement housekeeping and laundry policies and provide services to maintain high levels of Environmental Services.
  • Develop job descriptions and orientation checklists for the EVS department.
  • Recruit, interview, and verify references to employ necessary personnel.
  • Supervise scheduling of staff to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Conduct new employee orientation and training for EVS staff.
  • Check time cards for accuracy and process them for payroll.
  • Supervise purchasing, storage, and distribution of EVS supplies.
  • Maintain inventory of facility linen and ensure proper handling and distribution of clean clothing and linens.
  • Serve on facility performance improvement projects in accordance with JCAHO guidelines.
  • Supervise the disposal of bio-hazardous waste and maintain MSDS records.
  • Assist with supervision of construction, renovation, and repairs in the building.
  • Schedule and document periodic fire, disaster, and evacuation drills.
