About The Position

We are seeking a Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), this position will report to the Vice President of Environment, Health, and Safety. The Director of Environmental Health & Safety will generally be responsible for for assisting department leadership with day-to-day issues regarding operating unit support (multi-state/multi-site), regulatory compliance concerns, subcontractor prequalification and compliance issues, program implementation (both corporate and site/programmatic), development and delivery of training, unannounced project site observations and, use of the Willdan Risk Management Information System.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
  • Board of Certified Safety Professional CHST certification required, with an established pathway (qualifying course work and / or ASP certification) to obtain the CSP certification within 3-years from date of hire.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and directly manage teams, ideally in an EHS environment.7+ years of experience in EH&S (emphasis in construction).
  • OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and EPA knowledge and experience required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments to ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence across all levels of the organization in a fast-faced environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and relevant project management applications (e.g. Bluebeam).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to perform compliance observations and inspections, to train employees, and to meet customers.

Responsibilities

  • Function to provide subject matter expertise and guidance regarding Willdan EHS programs and policies with the ability to train, advise, and monitor compliance of employees and direct subcontractors engaged by Willdan on various project sites.
  • Act as a Willdan point of contact for external safety coordination as assigned. This includes but not limited to, developing a complete understanding of customer safety policies, coordinating alignment with Willdan EHS programs, orientation of Willdan staff and subcontractors regarding specific projects, and advising and monitoring compliance of staff and subcontractors when performing work for each customer. This may also include communication assistance with federal or state safety and environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Resolve day-to-day HSE issues that may arise by working with various operating unit management / project teams.
  • Periodically conduct unprogrammed EHS observations to help ensure Willdan facilities and operations remain in compliance with applicable fire, life safety, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Develop and assist with implementation of local emergency evacuation and fire safety plans.
  • Conduct incident investigations and review as directed, to identify trends and ensure the proper corrective action are identified and implemented to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provide input and observations to Willdan EHS leadership to improve safety programs and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Assist with required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Develop monthly EHS performance reports.
  • Expert understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Cal/OSHA standards.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor as business needs dictate.
