About The Position

RahrBSG is looking for a Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety to join our team in Shakopee, MN. The Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the organization’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) strategies and programs. As a strategic leader, this role ensures compliance with all relevant environmental regulations, policies, and standards, while fostering a culture of safety and accountability across the organization. The Director collaborates with teams to create and refine effective EHS initiatives, prioritizing the well-being of employees, guests, and stakeholders, and establishing the organization as a leader in environmental stewardship and safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related field. An MBA, MS, or relevant advanced degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years’ of progressive experience leading successful EHS organizations across multiple locations, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, local, and international safety and environmental laws, regulations, standards, and industry best practices (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
  • Experience with management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or equivalent are strongly preferred.
  • Approximately 10 – 20% of out-of-town travel required.
  • Strategic leader with a hands-on approach to implementation.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering business results, building and developing strong teams, and holding teams accountable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the overall environmental health and safety (EHS) strategy, aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement an effective management of change program to ensure proper documentation and compliance.
  • Ensure impactful metrics are tracked and reported timely
  • Develop and communicate a vision and roadmap for advancements in certification and compliance.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and advisor to executive leadership on all EHS health and safety-related matters.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable food safety, production quality, regulatory, and certification requirements. Proactively monitor compliance and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve identified compliance issues, partnering to create effective solutions.
  • Design, implement, maintain, promote, and continuously improve the EHS policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Ensure alignment with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO standards) and industry best practices. Proactively monitor compliance and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve identified compliance issues, partnering to create effective solutions.
  • Develop a compliance audit program for all sites that incorporates employee safety, food safety, and lean principles.
  • Collaborate, develop, and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), predictive metrics, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for EHS, report on status and progress on improving performance.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate EHS risks across all business operations, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to improve programs, achieve results, and increase overall safety culture.
  • Proactively identify gaps in environmental permitting compliance and manage external resources to ensure timely filings.
  • Ensure proper protocols are in place for communicating risks to site visitors and contractors and that proper documentation and agreements are in place to manage liability.
  • Lead incident investigations, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of EHS training programs for all employees, visitors, and onsite service providers.
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness and improvement through continuous education and engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international EHS regulations, including consistent documentation and process adherence across all sites.
  • Manage and control the company's Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and conformance to ISO standards, including meeting submission deadlines and maintenance of records. Proactively influence internal and external stakeholders’ ability to utilize data and trends as related to EHS or ISO compliance, strengthening the EHS Management System and overall EHS culture.
  • Prepare and present reports, metrics, and analyses on safety performance to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support and respond to EHS requests from external stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-functional team of EHS professionals and operational leaders in production, distribution, and other operational areas.
  • Build cross-functional partnerships to embed safety practices into daily operations and organizational processes.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence in safety compliance across the organization.
  • Stay abrest of emerging trends, technologies, and regulations in environmental health and safety.
  • Participate actively in cross-functional teams to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency and achieve safety standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the company and operational needs, demonstrating flexibility, strategic thinking, and a proactive approach to addressing business challenges and opportunities.
