About The Position

As Director of Engineering - Digital, you'll be part of our Corporate IT team working as a remote employee. We are seeking a forward-thinking and technically adept Director of Digital Engineering to lead the design, development, and delivery of modern digital applications and platforms. This role is responsible for overseeing a diverse engineering landscape-from scalable full-stack applications and edge delivery to CMS integrations and partner-managed services. The ideal candidate is an experienced technology leader with a strong foundation in modern application architecture, microservices, and cloud-native engineering. You will guide the implementation of cutting-edge web frameworks, intelligent automation, and performance optimization strategies that power exceptional digital experiences at scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including large-scale web application development and platform architecture.
  • Proven expertise in modern full stack development, including JavaScript/TypeScript, Next.js, and cloud-first environments.
  • Experience with microservices, distributed systems, REST/GraphQL APIs, and event-driven architectures.
  • Deep familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes), and DevOps tooling.
  • Understanding of AI/ML-powered tools for development, testing, and release automation.
  • Experience with performance optimization, edge delivery (CDN), and observability tools.
  • Strong vendor management skills, particularly with MSPs and third-party engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading digital engineering within high-scale consumer platforms, SaaS, or e-commerce environments.
  • Familiarity with SRE principles, DevSecOps, and zero-downtime deployment strategies.
  • Certifications in cloud architecture, agile delivery, or secure software development.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the technical strategy for building and scaling modern digital applications using frameworks such as Next.js, Node.js, and cloud-native services.
  • Architect modular, performant systems using microservices, API-first design, and serverless technologies where appropriate.
  • Ensure scalable deployment and edge performance through platforms such as Vercel, Akamai, or other CDN/edge solutions.
  • Introduce and operationalize AI-enhanced development and testing tools to boost quality, velocity, and automation across the software lifecycle.
  • Oversee CMS integration efforts (e.g., Drupal) as part of a broader omnichannel content and application ecosystem-ensuring flexibility, not dependency.
  • Guide cloud infrastructure decisions across AWS, Azure, or GCP, ensuring high availability, observability, and cost efficiency.
  • Manage relationships with external partners including MSPs, holding them accountable to SLAs and service excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-product, design, data, and security-to align engineering execution with strategic business outcomes.
  • Champion engineering excellence, CI/CD best practices, and infrastructure as code (IaC) adoption.
  • Lead incident response and continuous improvement efforts to ensure platform reliability and resilience.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, life, vision, wellness program, disability, 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement.
  • Discounts on Stanley Black & Decker tools and other partner programs.
